You are entitled to an S1 if you are in receipt of a UK pension or exportable benefit. If not, to get Residency you will need to pay the first year's premium upfront. Contact Gran Alacant Insurance who advertize on the forum.
For anything else, click on the "Jim's Guides" tab at the top of the page.
Hi
We are moving over in April and have had quotes from various companies with Gran Alcant, Alfonso, being by far the cheapest. Some were double!
I have been quoted 850 for the year, which i believe you have to pay upfront to get residencia.

Hope this helps
the ESSENTIAL plan is designed as an Outpatient plan and only pays for outpatient procedures such as unlimited GP and specialist consultations, certain diagnostic procedures and tests, clinical analysis (lab tests) and 24hrs. Emergency unit at the private hospital. This plan charges a co-payment of 1,85€ per consultation.
Inpatient treatments, in addition are covered with PREMIUM, e.g. 24hrs. emergency and intensive care unit, day-hospital, medical and surgical hospitalization in private room, but also enhanced outpatient benefits, diagnostic procedures and tests, special and therapeutical treatments such as oncology (cancer) treatments or physiotherapy & rehabilitation sessions, among other benefits.
TheEXCELLENTplan enhances PREMIUM comprehensive cover and in addition pays for internal prostheses up to 12.000 € per process (e.g. hip, knee, joints, heart valves, pacemakers, stent, by-pass), PET diagnostics (a special high-tec cancer test), cancer medication supplied with quimio or radiotherapy treatments, and more days in hospital for intensive care unit and medical in-patient stay (when no surgery takes place).
As prevention is better than cure, Premium and Excellent pays for a yearly well women/men check up.
Dental procedures such as consultations and checks with the dentist, x-rays, tooth extraction and a yearly tooth cleaning is also included (other procedures such as fillings, crowns, dentures, etc. would be subject to pay private).
While travelling abroad, the insurance includes worldwide emergency health assistance up to €12.000 per Insured for trips up to 90 days per trip, incl. medication and repatriation back to Spain should the €12.000 not be sufficient.
Other SALUS Guarantees:* Immediate access to primary care, specialists, tests & emergencies - No or shorter waiting lists

SALUS medical insurance offers a good range of private international clinics, GP's and specialists, e.g. Hospital QUIRON Torrevieja or Hospital IMED Elche, among others. You can see futher information at http://www.salus-seguros.com/en/ by clicking 'medical team' or alternatively in the attached medical directory.
On the other side, please note private medical providers registered in Spain unfortunately do not take over any pre-existing conditions declared on the health questionnaire (copy attached). SALUS however even so pays for the consultations with the specialist and any emergencies in the private hospital up to the diagnostic also on excluded pre-existing conditions. If the medical research or tests carried out would relate to an existing condition the insurance could not pay further. This shall not affect residency application as the authorities only request proof or certificate that private health cover has been purchased and paid for at least one year for out & inpatient treatments with no copayments(as you indicate in your mail). SALUS provides this specific certificate without having to show any possible pre-existing conditions and none of our customers ever had any query.
All benefits are covered from day 1, except certain procedures subject to an initial qualifying period you can observe on the attached brochure shown with a number in brackets ( ), these only apply on scheduled procedures but not on any vital life threatning situations determined by the specialist.

Yes that is per person.
It alters a little depending on ages.

Just seeking clarity as I've got myself confused (easily done)
My wife and I will both be 61 when we move to Spain from the UK later this year and are "early retirees" (not planning to work) and not eligible for an S1.
I'm aware we need health insurance (no co-pay) and have a quote for just under 2k for both of us. It excludes existing conditions. We both have high blood pressure (taking medication for it) and I have type-2 diabetes (again managed by medication). Does the fact that existing conditions are excluded mean we would be eligible for health insurance (with exclusions) or denied health insurance completely ? We would need to pick up the costs for medication etc.
By choice we would not want to "forget to declare" existing conditions but likewise we don't want to prejudice our move and obtaining residency by not being able to get health insurance...?

You only qualify for residency if you have PHI which complies with residency requirements, and the insurer needs to be able to issue a certificate/letter stating that the policy does comply.
I suggest you talk to Alfonso at Gran Alacant Insurances - scroll down the page and click on his advert.
