Hi everyone.

I am trying to find out information about medical insurance but seem to be bombarded with companies off the internet.

Could someone recommend best way to go about this both myself and partner mid forties with no health problems at all. Have been quoted €180 euros a month for both of us. Does this seem right ? We are based in La marina.

Thanks for all your help.

We went with Gran Alacant Insurances, contact them and speak to Alfonso, very helpful and professional, he will be able to talk you though the options, see their advertisement on the Forum or the link below.

Hi Emma,

As Kimmy 11 suggests it is always wise advice to obtain several written quotes, examine them and compare .

Sorry to have to go off at a slight tangent but we had to have private health insurance to get our residencia in January and we were advised to use Sanitas who are charging us €250 a month for husband and wife. Both in good health 63 and 60 years old. There are no co-payments and this means we don't pay any excess but would have been happy to have gone for excess for a cheaper payment but told we couldn't.  Also advised we had to keep paying policy for 12 months before we could change. Any information would be very .uch appreciated.  Thanks.  John

Thanks Kim we don't have the extra cover you suggested but understand now why we need to keep going for a year. Could you explain what happens then and what is the Convenia Especial? Please excuse our ignorance on this but there is a lot to take in when first moving here and we are still learning,  thanks.  John

Thanks Kim for your comprehensive reply as always we are very appreciative of your knowledge on these matters.  I am a little confused as to the amount to pay for the state health cover as we are paying eu 125 a month each for our PMI  and when we get to 65(2020 for me) that would make it cheaper to stay on PMI unless those rates rise dramatically. The figure for Convenia Especial is eu 157 and I assume that would rise each year.

Am I correct in saying that our healthcare here is free when we hit the official UK retirement age (66) for me? I read that the UK pays the Spanish government for our health care? It would then become free for my wife as well if I am on free healthcare?. I won't go into the Brexit posibilities as to how that might change things as it's just speculation at the moment. Sorry for so many questions but until our Spanish improves we are reliant on this excellent portal for a lot of our information.  Thanks.  John

Kim that's answers practically everything. We will look around for best PMI terms going forward into 2020 as the Convenia Especial sounds like it will cost more after I hit 65. THANKS AGAIN. john

Thanks for that Kim in order to comply there must be no co-payments and it doesn’t say on the ASSSA website if there are co-payments.......do you know if there are any co-payments

Sorry to bother you with this and thanks again for answering my previous question
