ZIP card being canceled

Has anyone else had their Zipp card canceled without any notice. A friend went to the pharmacy to collect his monthly medication for him and his wife, his wife was allowed to have the medication BUT he was refused and told his Zipp card had been canceled. He went to speak to the doctor who said they could NOT help and he must pay FULL price for his heart medication and pain killers, over 140 euros. The only thing they said was to speak to social security to find out why. He does NOT have this sort of money to pay for his medication. Anyone with any advice would be appreciated. He is 65 and his wife 68, they have had the cards for 20 years.

Hello

Is your friend resident in Spain & a UK passport holder. ?

f they have had SIP cards for 20 years , they would have been 45 & 48.years old??..The SIP card is available when you reach pension age & receive S1 forms from the UK. You then register those forms with the Social Security & then the required paperwork can be taken to the salud & a SIP card issued. ( I received my S1 & SIP card at 60 before the pension age was increased, until then I had private medical nsurance)

I have no idea how they got those cards but the lady is over pension age so sheis entitled to a SIP but her husband doesnt sound like he is!

The key to this is knowing on what basis the people in question first acquired their SIP cards.Are they fully legal residence wise and made annual tax returns, those are necessary even where income is below tax thresholds.
In and of itself the mere fact of being 68 means nothing, to qualify for an S1 you need to be in receipt of a UK state pension not just entitled to one.

It has happened to a friend of mine due to an administrative oversight on her part. I think they might be purging people who receive health benefits with incomplete social security records. Good luck with getting an appointment with INSS, I can't even get my friend a telephone appointment.

They are both residents and got the cards when they were issued to everyone without having to pay into the system which I did for 2 years for my wife when we lived there. I do not think they are doing tax returns but if this was the reason, why only cancel his card unless its because his wife is a pensioner.
