Hi we are new and planning a move to La Marina - Page 2

I bought through Barclays they were great and had no problems. I live in the uk and go over for long weekends and holidays as often as I can. Myself and partner are mid thirties and our place is in la Marina. We have Spanish, English and Getman neighbours can walk to the lovely restaurants and we cycle to the beach.We also use the buses for exploring it ticked lots of boxes for us. Good luck 

Me and my husband moved to Spain in Oct 2018.  We are renting with 3 dogs.  I would strongly recommend renting first.  We have moved again 2 weeks ago to a different area and have discovered so much in the 4 months of living here. Don't rush to buy, live here first, you will literally learn something new every week.  Where we first rented there were Pine trees and we had lots of problems with caterpillars, so we learnt not to buy if the property has pine trees. We been ripped off a few times by various Brits (not for lots of money) so you learn very quickly that there is no honor amongst Brits.  Also that estate agencies are very expensive.  If you can purchase directly with an owner, you will save thousands.  My advice, don't rush to buy.  Live the dream first without putting all your eggs in one basket.  We still want to buy in Spain but are waiting another year (and renting) before doing so.  Good luck :)

I have owned a property on La Marina Urb since 2004, and yes in the early years it felt like too many greasy spoon cafes and bars, but times have changed, I have good neighbours, (english, Dutch and Spanish), and the dining scene has changed for the better, there are Steak restaurants, French quisine, chinese and indian, and thats only around Consum Square.  I think you'll find that the area is safe enough, with several supermarkets around you, a nice beach only about 10 drive down the road, 20 minutes from 2 airports. I think no matter where you buy in Spain, it will be as good as you want it to be. Regarding the heating, I agree with the earlier comment, that you need to source a decent system, most people go for the aircon, (I have that with 5 heating panels scattered around the house as a back up), that keeps my place warm enough for me when I'm out in the winter months.  Beware though, if you go for the portable gas heaters please ensure that you get adequate vents installed to allow air to pass through and reduce the chances of mould and damp, or carbon monoxide poisoning.  Check this site, and Talk Quesada Forum, for suggestions on heating, and reliable firms to fit them.  I'm sure as your on this forum, you will be aware of how useful and helpful Alex and Jan have made it. We too are semi retired, and we purchased our Spanish home in La Marina Urb just over 2 years ago through Barclays.

I actually work (part-time) in the UK still, and so we tend to be in the UK for 3 weeks and then Spain for 2 weeks, travelling over around 11 times a year

We have a car parked at Alicante Airport (EuroParking - €300/year), and so we never have to hire a vehicle. 

I find that La Marina Urbanizacion  is a great place to be - you are a 5 minute drive from the coastline and beautiful beaches, and the Urb itself is quiet (well it is near us!). There are some great restaurants on the Urb, all are very walkable, and I find that the mix of people refreshing. Where we are situated on the Urb there are many Spanish family holiday homes, so the summer holidays can be busy

I’m sure you are going to have a great time in your new house on La Marina Urb - we certainly love it!

I do think some of your comments are a bit unfair but you are entitled to your opinion.

Previous detrimental opinions posted about La Marina urb are very outdated.

La Marina urb is a good place to live be aware however that in winter many properties are not occupied and its very quiet. I would recommend a car as you can get about to all the other towns and cities e.g. Elche is only a 20 min drive away and its an interesting city.

Hi, we are moving to La Marina in April, we had previously looked at different places in Costa del sol, but after visiting friends who live on the Urb, we decided this is where we want to live. It is close to miles of beaches, got great commercial areas, with good supermarkets, bars and restaurants, we love it and can't wait to get there.......Alan and Sue x

I have a holiday home on La Marina urbanisation we bought it 14 years ago and we love it, have you thought about renting some where before you commit to buying to make sure you like the area if I was moving to Spain that is what I would do. Hope all goes well for you.
