Hi Dave yes we will be renting at first
Morning, we purchased a property in 2004 and we love it here. We live in the UK and come over a lot in the winter for 3 to 4 weeks at a time. Our family use it. For us it will always be a holiday home. For people who live here, there is a good network support and there are plenty of things to get involved with. There is an organisation called MUNA, the yearly fee is 5€ per person, they are full of advice and will fight your corner if you have any problems. The urbanisation is very safe and Consum Square is a good place to have a coffee and meet other people. As someone suggested everyone is English, some are, but you only have to listen to conversations and determine for yourself that there are other nationalities. We have friends who have dogs and they can speak highly enough of the service they get from vets, and much cheaper than the UK. Personally, we could live here but with 4 children and 8 grandchildren in the UK 🇬🇧 our choice is England. We live in a lovely area called Flamborough Head where we run a B & B during the summer. Good luck with your move. Don’t listen to all the pessimistic views. Susan

Hi We live near La Marina, in an urbanisation called El Raso, near Guradamar del Segura, why not take a look, plenty of bars, restaurants etc. As you go into the Urb, lots of places to walk dogs, and even better, it's really well kept. Houses of different types and prices. Everybody very friendly, and majority if houses have a community pool. Also as part of community the houses are not able to add any permanent changes without permission from the community and town hall, so it still looks good. Roads and gardens are kept very well.still near the beaches, it's lovely here, and although mostly English a good mix of other countries. Moved here in October last year, definitely not dead in the winter.. Good luck wherever you settle.
Hola. I have lived on the la Marina Urb since 2004 after moving from Playa Flamenca. My husband and I love it here. Far from fish and chips, English beer and fast food there is a great selection of restaurants: Spanish, French, Italian, Chinese and Indian!!
Since 2004 we may have seen the police half a dozen times on the roundabouts checking documentation etc. Nothing to worry about there if you are legal.
We have superb neighbours who are Dutch and very good friends who are French. There are also Norwegians, Belgians and Swedish. A great mix of folk and totally unlike living on a council estate. Methinks someone is a bit of a snob.
We have easy access to all amenities - 25 mins to Alicante airport, 6 mins to a great beach and I can assure you la Marina is a great place to live.

Totally agree Queenie46, (although you don't look a day older than Queenie 36):-)
There is also an excellent site "Idealista" which has many agents advertising their properties both for sale and rent. Updated almost daily with all property listings sent to your email address. We wanted to rent long time and got sorted within a week...many properties to choose from for sale too!
We looked in Marina Alta part of province, but you can specify where you are interested to live.
Good luck!

Hi Sue and Pete,
I have just started looking on the La Marina Forum for info and tips as me and my hubby are coming out in May for a holiday (in the village) with a view to buying in the future. Like you, we are being cautious because of Brexit. I'm finding that the majority of posts relate to La Marina Urb. but the advice given tends to ring true for most areas e.g. rent first etc. We are hopeful of liking this place and of finding stuff to do of an evening in particular.
We have already dismissed a few places in the Murcia region, didn't take to it at all. On our last trip we were on a large urbanisation south of Torrevieja and away from the actual coast. Even though it was a most enjoyable stay, lovely people etc, for us it was a bit too English and inaccessible to other places without a car. We like the idea that La Marina pueblo is smaller, more Spanish, has good buses up and down the coast, is nearer to the airport and the sea.
It wouldn't do for us all to be the same after all. If anyone else has any tips etc. about the village I'd be happy to hear from you.

A couple of good sites for you to read prior to your visit are the Citizens Advice Bureau Spain, for general queries but only having current information as when the UK leaves the EU many things will probably change, and the N332 for anything to do with driving in Spain. The latter is run in collaboration with officers of the Guardia Civil for English speaking people. There is also helpful information in Jim's Guides on this site, the Costa Blanca Forum.
