Any of the locals we have spoken to have told us that it is doable. You can get a temporary sip card and renew it every six months,so that covers you for doctors and emergencies. For non emergency hospital care we will probably need to consider private insurance, but it's so expensive we have not taken it out yet. Dental care is better than the UK and cost virtually the exact same price for a filling as the NHS price and a far superior job. Go for it, it's a great life

Thanks David, your reply was very welcome and informative especially the piece in the SIP card.

Thank you in behalf of us both

Hi Kimmy,

Wonderful informative post, thank you so much for clarifying the position about SIP. I'm ultra cautious so I had reviewed the SIP process you so wonderfully described.

I'm going to have to take out private health care for both me and my partner and have budgeted for that as I was quoted €120 per month for us both via Sanitas.

It's all a learning curve and I'm deeply indebted to you for all this information, many thanks.

Steve

No problem, been there, done that, worn the tee shirt, good luck, and don't listen to the moaners, they forget council tax, gas, electric, etc., is much more costly in England.   Enjoy life out here it is good.

Hi Steve

Regarding the health insurance, just be aware, the cheaper policies don't tend to cover hospitalisation and only cover out patients and consultants. The typical quotes I received for decent cover were €140 per month for two of us and that's why we have not taken it out as yet.

To be legal here you must declare all your pensions in spain and beleave me tax here is more expensive than uk and allowance is lower  24pc compared to 20pc and allowance is 6990 e per person unless I would suggest you rent for a year as buying costs in spain are expensive 12pc and property does not appreciate like UK with all the new builds I suspect prices on resale will go down.

16000 pa is liveable unless you get into the barroom culture we live on 22000 pea

To cover all bills and the odd trip home.

Hope it helps

You are spot on ,there is the system where you don't pay twice UK or Spain but nobody knows if this will continue after BREXIT as it is .I think 80pc of expat here don't even bother to declare and they are the ones that will be moaning.
