Hi can anyone tell me if I can buy and sell items on e bay, with my English e bay account, but using the same account for buying items that are actually in Spain like changing my address in my profile to my Spanish address, I have been out for a week now as we have a house on the urb, but wanted to avoid if possible paying international postage by actually buying items that I may need on the Spanish e bay, if that is possible, appreciate any feedback  Brian.

It's a good few years ago, and I can't remember now whether I had to do a separate registration for EBay Spain. What I do know is that my logins for EBay UK, ES, and Com are all the same, as are my PayPal logins.

I use EBay several times a year, so far without any problems. I get stuff from Spain, Germany, Bulgaria, etc, without paying too much in postage.

eBay allows you to save multiple addresses and choose which one to use for a particular purchase. I use a P.O. box in Spain, as I don’t live here full time, and that’s one of the  addresses I have saved in my .co.uk account.

If you choose your Spanish address as the shipping address then search for items on eBay, it will show the shipping costs to Spain and filter-out the items where the seller doesn’t ship to Spain.

If you’ve previously added items to your basket and change the shipping address it will warn you if those items aren’t available for shipping to that country, and warn if postage costs have changed.

In my experience there aren’t as many items originating in Spain, so depending on what you’re looking for you’ll often find that most items come from the UK, US or China anyway.

I have no experience of selling on eBay, but you should probably check if any money you make needs to be declared to the Spanish tax man, as the rules may be different to the UK.

Pete.

Can I add my experience.

I had a long conversation with a lady in Paypal.  Ebay have a global sales programme, so if you buy in the UK, they pick up the extra shipping costs to ship whatever you bought, around the world. However, they will ship it to the address on your paypal.

I was informed to close my UK Paypal down and open a Spanish Paypal account. You therefore need a spanish bank account and/or card number (I used my debit card number) to set up Paypal in the country you want, linked to your address in that country!  Because my hubby is still paid in £ into an English bank account, we still wanted to keep the UK Paypal account, for sending things to the UK.  I had to therefore, use 2 different email addresses and 2 separate bank accounts.

On the bright side, I have bought lots through Ebay and had them delivered to my Spanish address, using my Spanish Paypal account.  There is the option to change Paypal accounts when you are paying for items through Ebay.

Hope that helps.

Hi Sarah,

I have two PayPal accounts, but both linked to UK accounts - one to my personal account and one to our joint account.

I’m able to buy things on eBay and have them shipped to Spain - and pay via PayPal- without any problems.

Not sure if I always get the best deal in exchange rates etc, but it certainly works okay for me.

Pete.

Thanks for that information Pete.  You must have one linked to your spanish address as Ebay will only deliver to the address on Paypal.  I tried all sorts and ended up calling Paypal for help, necessitating me setting up a Spanish Paypal.  However, even though we both use it differently, it seems works for us both  :)
