Dear Jim

I had received a speeding fine notification from DGT. This was for a speeding offense near Sevilla on Dec 23

The notice was received 4 days ago

But somehow it had been lost and without the reference no I cannot pay the reduced fine

How can I get a duplicate or contact DGT to get hold of the reference no

Please advise

Check their website ( http://www.dgt.es/es/ ) for ways to contact them.

John

We have tried but other than a phone and fax number there were no other methods specified

We copied the phone number and will call tomorrow but I hope they will have someone who can speak in English

Cheers

Unsurprisingly many Government Departments only have Spanish speaking staff, that is one reason I am taking Spanish lessons. You put people on the back foot if your first words are " I don't speak Spanish, do you speak English ?", try " Hablas Ingles" which is " Do you speak English ?" ( the H is silent ) and " " Hablo Un Poco De Espanol" which is " I speak a little Spanish". At least trying to communicate in Spanish gives a more positive response.

John

I know as I will be the first to understand that we need to speak their language not the other way round

I will get a Spanish speaking person to call tomorrow

And thank you for the tips on Spanish

Cheers

Nicola

Thanks for that, all I need is to find out how I can get hold of the speeding letter reference number which is needed to pay the reduced fine on line as unfortunately I have misplaced / lost the original

So I will just call the number and see

Cheers

I can't help you now, but for the future I suggest you do two things:

1). Get an electronic certificate, which is useful for all sorts of things that would otherwise require a visit to various official offices:

https://www.costablancaforum.com/area/almorad%C3%AD-spain-11/taxes-suma-nie-tax-advice-in-almorad%C3%AD-25/electronic-certificates-31090/

For example, I've just been to this page:

https://sede.dgt.gob.es/es/tramites-y-multas/alguna-multa/consulta-tablon-edictal-testra/

I clicked the electronic certificate access and, fortunately, it didn't come up with any outstanding sanctions.

2). Register with DGT so you'll be notified by email or DMS of any penalties.

Contact your insurance company, they will trace it. I had one on my way back from Barcelona, it was my insurance company that sent me all the details including the amount I had to pay and number to call.

Good luck
