We have been in our house for 5 weeks now. Just yesterday noticed mice droppings on the kitchen worktop and today behind and even on a bed! Can anyone advise? Is this a common problem? Should we put some poison down? Or wait to see if it happens again? It / they may have just been passing through? There is absolutely no food etc accessible to entice them in.

By the way, I hate Mice, verging on a phobia!!!

Put poison or traps down first to deal with all those already in the house, find out where they are coming in, fix it and then possibly get a cat.
They may not be using your home as a food source but as shelter and for breeding and if you can't face doing it yourselves there are pest control companies who will do it for you.

They certainly won't just be passing through. I like mice, but don't tolerate them in the house. Any don't think that a lack of food will deter them - they'll be quite happy to chew on a nice cardboard box or the insulation on your wiring.

You can try using traps, but the surest method is to use poisoned bait - or adopt a feral cat.

Thank you Cheryl. I would have lots of cats as I used in UK but unfortunately my Husband isn't keen ): We will try the poison and trap idea first and see how we get on. Many thanks for your reply.

Thank you Jim. Poisoned bait it is then. Sadly my Husband will not have a cat. Maybe the Mice will change his mind! (:

And we think we've got problems!! We live on the edge of Marina Oasis Urb. next to the shrub landy bit. Thank you for your reply. Guess it does depend on where you live. I couldn't cope where you are! Many thanks again.

Hi Lynne,

Do you have mosquito screens fitted at your doors and windows?  We live in the campo and had all sorts of critters in our gardens, but the only thing that's ever got into the house are the tiny ants that appear for about 3 weeks each Spring.  It's very liberating being able to open all your doors and windows, whilst knowing that unwanted house guests can't get through the mesh.

Good luck with eradicating your mouse problem.

Kind regards,

Kim

Yes, we have got the screens but not on all windows. We will start to use the ones we've got though. It may help. Many thanks for your reply.

🐭 🐭  They wouldn't dare - they'd have Eddie Edible Edelicious to contend with, our Spanish rescue dog.... 🐶 😉
