How to get a Residents visa?

Not to do with cars, but I see the word residency mentioned. I am British and my wife and daughter are Cambodia. We will arrive Spain in September with my wife and daughter entering on a Schengen visa. We intend to settle in Spain so need to obtain a residents visa before there Schengen visa expires. Can anyone advise how we obtain the residents visa?? Thank you
