Hi guys,

I was wondering if somebody could give me some advice? I moved to La Marina in June 2025 when we received our first year NLV.  My passport is due for renewal in July this year and I was wondering where it will be renewed as I am now living in Spain.

Do I apply online to the Passport Office in England or to the British Embassy in  Spain? As my NLV runs out in June do I have to apply for my passport renewal early?

Thank you for any kind advice. 😘

Apply on line to the UK passport office. You can upload your photo on it and do it as normal. If you apply to update your NLV then you will need to show your old passport (which is sent back to you) and they will then record your new passport for future updates.

But the British consulates do not issue or update passports.

As your passport is now 10 years old it's quite likely that it may have some spillover from the previous one. In other words seemingly valid for over 10 years as its expiry date is more than 10 years from its date of issue.

If that's the case then you should renew before that 10 year anniversary as that additional time is no longer valid and could potentially result in a denied checkin at an airport or other port of departure.

Just a comment:

I friend did her online application and then returned her expiring passport by Correos recorded delivery, and has just been told that her new passport will be delivered tomorrow - only two weeks since she did the application.

I had exactly the same experience a few weeks ago when I renewed mine. It's a nice surprise to find out Britain can still do some things quickly and efficiently.
