We have Sales guys in our house at the moment selling a security system. Anyone used Securitas Direct? Do we need this on the Urb? Quick reply would be appreciated. Many Thanks.

Probably way over priced for the hardware on offer, I would suggest you buy a good quality wireless alarm from Amazon like Yale and save yourself the money as the biggest deterrent is the alarm box on the wall outside.

We have the same system and are very pleased with the monthly updates and activity report etc.

Definitely a deterrent and our neighbours accidentally set theirs off and had their mobile phone off from traveling so the alarm people couldn’t confirm weather everything was ok or not....so within five mins of them setting the alarm off two police were climbing over the gate to investigate as the alarm people had notified them! ....so it works! And when Iam away the  wife likes the sense of security that a panic button is on the bedside cabinet that is linked direct to call Centre/ via police!

Touch wood we have never had any local break ins or robbery’s that we know about but it’s always better to be prepared then not .....I do t think you’ve done wrong going with them!

Thanks for your reply. Everything we were hoping to here! We were pleased with the installation and explanation of system. As you, we are especially happy to have the comfort of the panic button....hopefully of course it will never be tested!

I agree with what has been said about Securitas. We have had their system for 10 years now and there have been no major faults. We have 4  movement  sensors around the house with cameras inside and the pictures are sent to Madrid in seconds and they will call out the  police if needed.   For night time you can programme the sensors to operate in whatever part of the house you require, so if you want to cancel the kitchen or hall at night time for instance, it can be done. You get a remote control fob which includes a panic alarm.

The signs on the gate and house showing cameras are a good deterrent. Securitas will check your system remotely and will          advise if the batteries in the sensors need changing. They change all of them annually anyway. As it is a wireless system you can  take it with you if you want when you move.

In short it is a good reliable system. Sorry if I missed the boat a bit.

You are taxing my memory here, but if I remember rightly you have to buy the system initially and they fitted it to our requirements, that is why you can take it with you because it's your kit. A figure of 550€ comes to mind but don't quote me on that.

My last direct debit came out at 43€, which is monthly. There are no other charges for maintenance and replacements etc.

I am sure that if you went on their website you could organise a quote.

I have a Yale wireless system with a telephone dialler which will ring my mobile and the keyholder if it goes off, it cost less than £200. 550euros and 43 a month seems a lot to me.

Hi Andrew,

I have had the same Yale system and believe me the secrutas system is head and shoulders over it...it photographs intruders, it calls the police immediately and is linked to a genuine 24 hour manned control Centre. It also is linked to your mobile device worldwide so you can see who if anyone is robbing you!! ( never really undtood that feature?) I guess you can double up and call the police?

It has outside detectors and internal detectors, panic buttons , zone areas if you wish to isolate etc etc.

Iam not saying the Yale system is no good, it is but you get what you pay for in life.

Any alarm is better then no alarm eh? Most of it is pysicological I would say and even “ beware of dog” signs etc are a good deterrent even if you don’t have a dog!
