Hi

We bought a new build last March and we are not sure how to go about paying the non residence tax (think it is called modelo) we haven’t had anything posted to us. I understand it should have been paid by 31st December.  Any information will be gratefully received.

Hi Carol and Brian. The Non Resident Tax for a property not rented out is called The Imputed Income Tax and is indeed payable by 31st December each year, however it is paid in arrears for the previous year and as you only bought in March 2018 you won't be liable for any payments yet. hence the reason for  you not having received a bill.

LeckyLes.

Your non-resident tax for the proportion of 2018 that you owned the property can be paid any time up to the end of 2019. It's up to you to do it, and you won't receive a bill.

You can have it done for you for only €20:

Council tax is IBI, often incorrectly referred to as the SUMA because SUMA are the agency who collect the tax in Alicante area on behalf of the town halls.

For this you will get a bill - ours is payable in early September. When you get the bill, or earlier if you wish, it's sensible to set up a direct debit with SUMA.

In my area, the rubbish collection portion of the council charges is included in our water bills from Hidraqua.

When you get your water and electric bills you can register to use their Virtual Offices. These will mean you can go paperless and monitor your bills, set up Direct debits if not already done. Alternatively, if your solicitor set up your Contracts he should be able to get your Contract Numbers. With these, your NIE Number and Passport number you can register.
