Hello, I am purchasing a Holiday home in La Marina, as in two three month periods. Can you guys tell me the very cheapest electricity company with regards standing charges please?, I dont intent to use too much electricity whilst I am there. Even here in the UK I didnt turn the heating on once last winter and I am single.

I don't know about cheapest standing charges but I can recommend you ask about the plan noche tariff which gives you cheaper electric in winter from 10 pm to 12 mid-day and summer from 11 pm to 1 pm. You will need to heat your water still and I think you may be surprised at how cold it feels here once the sun goes down in winter due to inferior construction and lack of insulation.

The standing charge is fixed by the state and therefore is the same between all suppliers.

All you can do to reduce the charge is to work out whether or not your maximum power drawn is less than your contracted power supply and, if so, reduce that.

Until last year, you could only choose between normalised amounts, for example reduce from 5.75 to 3.45 kW/h, but Real Decreto 15/2018 introduced the ability to choose a contracted power supply in multiples of 0.1 kW/h.

As regards electricity used I agree with Cheryl, and that the night tariff, or the tariff where you choose which eight hours to have at the cheap rate, is the way to go.

Jim, great info on the new more flexible 'Contracted Power' scheme .

I shouldn't really need to say it, but the contracted power you wish to change to must be no more than either what you are on already or what your boletín states.

Thanks all, guess I will leave the supplier who the previous holiday use owners used then and see what my usage comes out to.

Jim to add to that ,I think in the event of the Electricall Installation being in excess of 20 years old and the Contracted Power adequately falling within those quoted limits, a new boletin may be requested..
