Hi neighbours I'm collecting any unwanted blankets or towels for a cat and dog sanctuary in town, who desperately need bedding during this cold weather, for their furry residents

That's a lovely thing to do Ian, when I worked for a local charity shop we used to save unwanted sleeping bags (lots of people had them & never used them) along with blankets etc for animal shelters in the colder months.
Even if people have older stuff that is not good enough to resell in charity shops, please help if you can....thank you.
