Hi Just received this from Easyjet
From 10th February 2021, the seat you have booked will determine what bags you are able to bring on board.
All customers can bring on board one small cabin bag(max. 45 x 36 x 20 cm), and this must fit under the seat in front of them.
Customers who have booked an Up front or Extra legroom seat can also bring on board a large cabin bag(max. 56 x 45 x 25 cm), which must fit in the overhead locker. These seats can be selected at the time of booking, or at any time before you check-in via Manage Bookings, or by contacting our Customer Service Team.
If you do have a large cabin bag but do not want to purchase one of these seats, we offer Hands Free as an alternative. This allows you to drop your large cabin bag at easyJet Plus Bag Drop in the check-in area, and it’ll be amongst the first to be delivered when you arrive at your destination.
What this means for your upcoming trip
As you are due to travel on or after 10th February 2021, and at least one of your flights contains a Standard seat or you have not yet selected a seat for the flight, this affects what you are able to bring on board. However, because you booked before these changes were announced,we would like to offer you Hands Free, free of charge, for the affected flights.
Please be aware that if you bring a large cabin bag to the Departure Gate without the correct seat selection, we will have to place this in the hold, and charges will apply.
Please ensure you check your baggage allowance for each of your flights, as these may differ.
They do state that any flights already booked will be allowed to make use of this change free of charge. It is for new bookings only!!! Gillian

It was only a matter of time until EasyJet followed Ryanair’s stance in applying charges for hand luggage bags....It will help them to start recovering lost income due to the massive shortfall in flights and passengers this year due to the pandemic

I booked a flight to Alicante on Friday 19 February ,last night ,flying from Edinburgh with Ryanair we purchased 2 hold cases 20kgs each for £50 ,added to fare total very reasonable £127 for both ,cases in hold dont have to bother lugging small cases on and off aircraft ,definitely way ahead for us

The problem is most airlines agreed that placing luggage in hold makes the spread of contagion more likely as the cases are handled by more people and are in contact with more surfaces. Cabin luggage is only handled by the owner. I know which option I would prefer.
Unfortunately, unlike Ryanair, Easyjet aren’t offering everyone the option to pay extra for cabin cases. Cabin cases are only permitted when front row or extra legroom seats are purchased and these are very limited in number. The other option is to purchase the Easyjet plus pass but this is an expensive option given current uncertainties.
I can understand that Easyjet need to recoup costs but wish they had allowed all passengers the option of purchasing cabin cases. They must incur additional costs to handle more hold luggage
Very disappointing.

I'm not as trusting as you ,I think Easyjet have copied Ryanair ,not to the letter but to extract more money from passengers, as I said in previous post I'm very happy with the deal I got ,they may make a bit more money if they both reduced the prices of food and drink on trolley service ,its daylight robbery, I can remember back in the day British rail charged a ridiculous amount for a can of beer ,result hardly any body bought unless charged to company ,the prices are much more customer friendly now so sell more

I completely understand and support Easyjet in wanting and needing to raise money. I would rather have a more expensive flight than no flight/airline at all!
My gripe is with forcing so many cases into the hold where they can be contaminated unseen. What is the point of health forms, Covid tests , lockdowns, masks, hand wash. quarantine...when we will be handling and taking into our homes suitcases that have been stored and touched by who knows what?
Might sound a bit far fetched but it is a real risk that could be avoided by continuing to keep our own cases with us .
