Hi All.  Am new to the Spanish way of working and have had a quote to replace internal doors with White ones.  The contractor says that he must remove the door frames before fitting new doors and then replace said frames. Does anyone know if this is usual practice . Of course in the UK doors can be removed and fitted easily without removing door frames.  Am quite happy if that's the norm. As I said i'm new to Spain and still finding out things.  Any comments would be appreciated. Many Thanks.

Hi that's the way here doors are pre hinged to the frames I've not seen a door sold on its own . You could buy a door an d frame the same size and just use the door but the hinge might not match up but a carpenter could make it fit but it would be quicker to replace both. Some doors and frames are fitted to another frame as they are finished wood and can't be trimmed set sizes. . Hope this makes sense contact me if not

In some ways I can understand it, as fitting a new door to an existing frame can be a right bar steward, especially if the existing frame is in any way distorted and need to be trued up. It's certainly easier to trim the door and fit the hinges and handle if you've got the frame and door lying flat.

I've only fitted one new door here, but fortunately the frame was true, so I didn't need to remove it.

Hi Check to see if the new doors are the same size if they are a carpenter can reuse the old hinges for the new doors, far less hassle than taking the whole frames out which include taking off the architraves. I am a retired carpenter and I know which I would sooner do.

We have just bought in Los Altos and have had all the doors and woodwork in the house painted white - they came and took the internal doors away and sprayed them with an acrylic type paint and the frames were painted by the house painter.

We bought new door furniture at Leroy merlin and all looks nice, clean and modern now.

Message if you would like details of the decorators and I will get the info from my husband.

If not I’m sure most decorators would be able to do similar.

Good luck

Hi All.  Thank you for answering my post.  I am now much more clued up on how things are done here.

Pinkshami....that was a great idea to spray your doors. Unfortunately most of the doors were damaged in some way and needed replacing. But  will keep that idea in mind.

So removing frames seems to be the quickest and easiest solution (if not the cheapest).

Thank you all again.  It's so great to find out things here instead of spending ages wondering if, where and how to get things done.
