Can anyone give me an estimate of monthly running costs on a Spanish property of say 3 beds/2 baths?  I've read varying accounts of costs, with some saying you can run a property for around 1,000 euros a year with others giving much higher figures.  I've also read conflicting reports on the costs of electricity in spain, with some saying it is "horrendously expensive" and others saying it's cheaper than in the UK.

We are considering buying a property in Spain, but need to know if our income would stretch to running a house in Spain as well as one in the UK.  Can someone advise what bills/taxes/fees you have to pay in a year?

Many thanks

Three bed house, but a large one, and we're resident here.

Leccy - Lights in office, two computers, and under-unit lights in kitchen stay on all day, and pool pump runs for at least one hour a day, so our bills are probably a bit higher than most.

Similar with phone etc - could get it cheaper but I prefer to stay with Movistar for reliability.

Logs are our main source of heating, supplemented by the three aircon units.

No running costs for TV as we have satellite for all the free channels and aren't interested in premium channels of any flavour.

Here you go:

Car insurance €376

Car tax €50

Council tax €173 (note the difference from the UK!)

Electricity €1309

Gas €140

House insurance €499

ITV (MOT) €44

Landline, 2 mobiles, internet €682

Logs €290

Water (including rubbish collection) €338

Hi Lindy

We have 3 bed/2 bathroom quad house in Playa Flamenca, which is only used for holidays at the moment, we visit approx 6 times a year.

I have attached a list of costs that we incurred for last year, the elec and water are mostly standing charges, as we switch everything off when we vacate the property.

We also have wi-fi, which had an initial set-up cost, now just pay as we use it, which averages out at about 2 euros a day. We have a sat-dish which gives us freeview, but don't really need this now as we are starting to use IPTV

We dont have a car, occasionally we may hire one if we are wanting to travel outside of the area, but i've not included any costs for this as they vary dependant on time of year.

There are obviously a lot of variable extras, food, drink, taxi, flights etc, but the below should give a good indication of normal utility costs

Hope this helps, good luck if you are looking to make the move!!

2017
Per/Month
Per/Year Electricity  € 313.01  € 26.08 Water  € 275.27  € 22.94 Home Insurance  € 249.25  € 20.77 Communal Tax  € 310.00  € 25.83 Bank Charges  € 120.00  € 10.00 Suma Tax  € 184.83  € 15.40 TOTAL  € 1,452.36  € 121.03

Hi there.

Do you have a pool? If so how much would you expect to pay a contractor to look after it throughout the year?

Many thanks

Sharon

We wanted a pool but when we thought about it logically we decided against. Pools are really only usable 4 mths per year and from some of the estimates I received it will cost with the cleaning and the pump around 600-800e per year to run. As a lock and leave i wasn't prepared to carry that cost. We have a really nice community pool which costs me 330e per year

If I lived out here I would have a pool as I could justify the cost
