Admin.

Very pleased to see the addition of the “unhelpful” button.  Very useful way of venting irritation.

Not so sure about the merits of the “give award” option with its bronze, silver and gold levels.   Does a (supposedly) adult forum really need this?

I'm not sure about either of them as, in the main, I think we are all adult enough for a bit of robust and frank exchange of views now and again and there is the report button for extreme cases. What happens when someone doesn't appreciate the banter between Villas, UKHandyMan, LeccyLes et al? Will there be a competition for the number of unhelpful votes?
A lot of very useful information is given on here by posters who can be a bit blunt, shall we say, but I love the different characters. We can already see how many helpful votes the legends have rightly gained so no need for awards.

I agree with CP and Cheryl, I don't see the point of the Awards - you've only got to look at the number of Jim Taylor's Helpful votes to see the level of recognition our resident guru has rightly received.

If I think someone has been unhelpful, I'd simply respond with a post to that effect, with an explanation of why I think a post is unhelpful - sometimes that can result in flushing out a misunderstanding or gaining further clarification which ends up being beneficial overall.  As adults, we should be capable of a reasonable level of self-regulation.

Kind regards,

Kim

I like the unhelpful button, as some people, for one reason or another, seem to enjoy posting unfriendly or nasty answers. The award button, no reason for this, but maybe automatically an award for every 20 or 50 helpful posts. Just a thought.

I don't disagree with the Unhelpful button. In my case, if I think a post deserves voting down, then it's easier to click a button than it is to spend time typing a reply. The problem of course is that it's open to abuse, e.g. by someone who just doesn't like the content of a post, even if that is factually correct.

We did try this option on the old La Marina forum a few years ago, but it was eventually dropped because it didn't do anything to enhance the forum. I'm sure that Alex will be monitoring the use of the Unhelpful button and will drop it if he thinks it isn't serving a useful purpose. And I'd just like to say thanks to Alex for all the improvements he's made since I originally joined the forum.

It's similar with the award button. I've never seen such a feature on a forum, but again I'm sure Alex will monitor it. I'd just like to know where the winners go to collect their awards, and whether they're plated or solid!

I like the idea of an 'Unhelpful' button, not everyone wants to get in to a long winded heated debate. As regards 'all being adults', if only....; over the years that must be one of the most abused phrases I have ever heard in use.

Hi. If (as quoted, myself or Leche or Handy) lost money, as opposed to other's points, jokes & assistance... We may stop. All as above have been of great assistance & many a chuckle. Take away our points(who cares?). We are here to assist. I hope you ALL enjoy. I learn much & smile often except Les! Jajaja

I would hope that even though we wander off with banter, (some more than others eh Villas?!!) that we would still not be wandering in to unhelpful territory. If we have, then it needs to stop.

Perhaps we should have a 'Banter' section for funnies and the likes, maybe best suited in its own space rather than taking up general posts?

Am I being unhelpful ?!!

I think you are ("my friends on the forum", or others). I have learned from this post. If it becomes abusive, not friendly, using " outbursts of profanities", I mind it amusing but never abusive. I have tried to refrain from that, & sometimes never found it for all for all tastes. I don´t need appreciation. I have enjoyed all the "people" here on the forum. Those know to whom I speak. All move on. Help each other. I read with interest.
