Hi

After looking along the Costs Calida coast in the hope of purchasing our holiday home we are now changing our search options to around the La Mata area. What are everyone’s opinions on owning a holiday home in this area, transport links, things to do & see etc?

Hi,

In the season La Mata is a busy place but it's quieter during the winter months. As in most places there is a weekly market, it is on the bus route, it comes complete with amenities and a good selection of bars and restaurants. La Mata is close to towns like Guardamar del Segura and Torrevieja, if you're into golf, La Marquesa in Ciudad Quesada is probably the closest course.

The local beaches are top. Alicante Airport is about 45 minutes down the road and the city of Alicante another 5-10minutes. Plenty of things to see and do inland, in places like Elche and Orihuela, also don't forget Benidorm where you have Terra Mitica, Terra Natura, Aqualandia and of course the Asia Gardens.

As far as properties are concerned, there are plenty of resale apartments and you'll be able to pick up 2beds for under 100k€, things look a little different on the new build side of things, not so much on offer and the prices are higher.

I hope this is of some help....

Best,

JP

Thank you JP. I think we are going to book somewhere to stay there from today. We are staying in San Pedro de Pinatar at monement but thinking of moving on earlier than planned. Sounds good. Yes we are looking for resale under €90,000.

Hi

After spending nearly 2 years looking and coming over at different times of the year this area fitted all the criteria.  Property prices are good but that is changing fast.  It is possible to catch a bus to and from the airport with a change in Torrevejia.  I ended up purchasing up by Lomas del Mar because I am here during the winter and most of the restaurants stay open all year and a choice of supermarkets.  It is an 8 minute walk to the beach.  Initially I wanted to be next to the sea but having stayed down in Cabo Cerera during the winter found it miserable. If you are looking to rent short term the agent Sell2go does rentals.  Hope you find what you are looking for.

Jane

Hi joe jones

Could you tell me about Christmas and New Year’s Eve in la mata please? Are there New Years celebrations? Are the restaurants and bars open ?

Many thanks 🏖

Hi Katymay, many restaurants are open forNew years celberations in La Mata and those that are will have adverts in the window or stuck somewhere close by, I have a place in Lomas del polo Pinomar which is a 15 minute walk from the center of La Mata and 8 mins walk to the beach very quiet and peacefull and good parking. Be aware that wherever you choose the month of August is a nightmare for parking anywhere in the area as it's the Spanish hols and everywhere is full of Spanish holiday makers.
