Hi

I’m thinking of moving to Spain shortly and wondered if anybody had/has any experiences with Enbrel, the costs and processes involved.  I’m trying to assess the worst case scenario should my S1 become void next year.

I was wondering how long term illnesses are treated over here and if there are any dispensations.

Thank you in advance.

Thank you for the information.

With regard to dispensations, for example, is if I have a particular long term illness treatment for that illness is free or virtually (I’m actually living in France at the moment and this is the case).  Fingers crossed the guarantee stays.

Sorry, I have a new question now.  I never thought of a translator (probably cheaper than having notes translated).  Is it a case of just looking some up on line?

Many thanks

Provided you arrive in Spain before Dec 31st. ang get your residence application in your S1 entitlement will continue, that's in the withdrawal agreement and cannot be changed.

Note that the moment you apply for a new S1 for Spain DWP will inform France and they will immediately demand the return of your Carte Vitale.

Once in the Spanish system you will pay 10% of the costs of all medicines - no ALD concessions in Spain but no mutuelles either - but depending on your income that might be reduced to zero although only when you have submitted your first tax return so could take a couple of years to kick in.

I am not wishing to be provocative or to be the naysayer, however, the status of the S1 after December 2020 is of great interest to me.

Very recently, one of our very respected members remarked, of the S1

“The last letter I had from the NHS BSA said that cover was only guaranteed until the end of this year. GOV.UK say it will continue after then, but there’s no mention of it in the withdrawal agreement - only in the draft agreement, of which very little was enacted in the formal agreement. Nor has anything been published by the EU or Spain. As far as I’m concerned, it’s still up in the air”

It is this caution that has prevented my progressing, what would almost certainly have been, our relocation, permanently, to Spain.

I’m raising it as if this is so, (and I have every confidence in this members statement) I feel needs to be stated to allow others to consider the potential impact for them

I sincerely hope the S1 will still be available, I may be able to pack my bags for good 🤪🥂

Thanks everyone for your information,

The Q&A from the UK Ambassador was reassuring.

Here on the forum, most members acknowledge that Jim’s advice is invaluable, not only to new, but to also to more established members. His capacity and tenacity for research and cross reference appears inexhaustible; his grasp of the implications for Brits in Spain pre and post B***** is more than impressive

Members constantly refer posters to his “guides”, confident that they will find sound impartial advice. It felt, therefore, important and relevant, to offer his note of caution, however slight, on the status of the S1, post December. That it might not fit the popular narrative does not make it any less valid.

This in no way negates the opinions or expertise of others, but it is important that all opinions are out there for members to consider

At a personal level, I do not have the necessary skills (or desire) to accurately unravel the legalese that underpins B***** I must therefore form any personal decisions and impacts by considering all potential scenarios.

At the moment I choose to exercise caution🤪🥂
