Hola

I appreciate that a lot of people are searching for information regarding the process of moving furniture and personal items from the UK to Spain, but I am hoping someone who is NOT looking to become a resident but who instead has a holiday home, has been through the process and can offer some advice on how to find out what items will attract IVA, etc.

I am weighing up the cost of moving things over vs having to purchase them again, especially as some of the items do not seem to be available in Spain or are cost prohibitive :(

Any help, advice will be much appreciated.

Thank you,

Tee

All affected belongings should be used. Set up an inventory stating an estimated actual value for each item. Have that inventory stamped by the nearest Spanish Consulate, Instruct your customs broker to produce that document together with proof of residence to Spanish Customs for clearance as used household exempted from taxes and duties.

Wow!  You were clearly extremely lucky.  Unfortunately, our stuff will be on a removals lorry - we will be checked.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.  Unfortunately, it doesn't answer my question as we are NOT RESIDENT, so there are different rules :(

four times i have done this now, have been asked once and they had a quick look but weren't really interested when i said it was my own personal goods, i also had a jcb 3cx delivered from the uk and i didn't pay any duty on that either, i met a guy in javea who had his stuff brought in by a removal van and it cost him thousands he even had to pay tax on his books.

Have you brought items over from the UK unchallenged in this way since the rules changed with Brexit on 1 January 2021?

You have shared your experiences of many trips bringing goods from UK, but you have ommited to share you have a TIE and are a resident and as original poster asked for non residents experience, think this may mislead people ( non residents) into thinking you have been very lucky and they too think they might fare as good. There are huge differences between the two and because you were moving goods to your new primary residence obviously you would have been exempt duties. Having just come with a car full on 28th by ferry, our load was looked over especially asked if we had a pet, no, then ushered on our way. We have done 2 trips with van before January but chickened out using our van until we feel more aware of consequences.

Good luck to all non residents transporting their own belongings.

Regards

Pauline
