Hi Bernie,

Congratulations! Mandy and I wish you every happiness in your new home. We get our keys on 1st of July to our new home not far from you just up the CV384 and we ae very excited too. We will travel out towards the end of June by road as we have a little dog Jet and then Mandy's daughter is coming out in September. It will be great to meetup for a coffee or GnT or wine or beer or... well you get the idea! in the near future.

Cheers Paul

Hello Bernie, my husband and I are looking at moving over, well early retiring  later this year and wondered how you are liking La Romana as we are torn between LaRomana and Hondon de las Nieves or hondon de los Frailes.

Hi Hels (& Bernie!)

The answer to that question really begins with a question, what are you wanting from your move?

La Romana is predominantly a Spanish village, however, there are many ex-Pats there, English as well as other nations. It is a very friendly village. The Hondons (Londons!) have more British ex-Pats in my opinion and if you feel like you will struggle with the language then I suggest you are better suited in Frailes.

In Frailes, there are more restaurants than in La Romana also. Irish bar, English bars and Spanish bars of course. There is good food to be had at both ends of the main street and quite a social feel to it, but not everyone wants that.

I don't know if you have been to either / both villages but I would recommend you spend time in both if you haven't. I would begin with my original question, what do you want from your move?!!! Once you know the answer to that then perhaps I can help guide you further.

Further to that, I would start thinking about the type of property you are wanting, and how much land etc.

If I can help you any further then please get in touch!

Best wishes with your adventure!

Hi Steve

La Romana is a traditional Spanish village with about 2,500 inhabitants, of which a maximum of 25% are expats... not all British.

The locals are very friendly and welcoming. Valencian is the primary language for the older generations in the village and Spanish is secondary. The younger generations often speak English also.

It is not impossible to get by without the language ability, but I dare say there will be easier towns and villages to consider where English is widely spoken. The Hondon valley is 10 minutes away and Hondon de los Frailes is far more English than La Romana. That said, it is not for everyone.

Dont let that put you off though! We arrived with only a few phrases to our name and we have slowly learnt a little more, but we are far from being fluent!

The village itself has everything you should need and a great community spirit.

If there is anything specific you wanted to know then please feel free to ask and between myself, and the other locals, I am sure we can assist you.

Hope it helps
