I need to return a hire car to Alicante Airport is there a bus service or would anyone know the cost of a taxi, I have the car hire company paperwork stating the end of contract , will I still have any problem with the police for being on the road,

Hi Keith,
No problem with you returning your hire car, so long as only one of you in the car. As you say, just have your paperwork to hand in case you get stopped by the police.
It's a while since I've had to take a taxi from Alicante airport, but you're probably looking at €50-60. I'd agree the price with the driver before you get in the taxi: I'd like to think that the licensed taxis would be charging usual rates, but worth asking, just in case any drivers are trying to profit from the current circumstances.
There is a bus service from the airport to Torrevieja, but I don't know whether it's running to usual timetable, if at all. It's run by Costa Azul:
