Hi there

My parents (in their 80s) both with health issues and unable to drive, live in La Siesta (I am in the UK). At the moment they are relying on a taxi to take my Dad once a week to the supermarket etc to get provisions. Do you know if a local group has been set up to do this for them (as we now have in the UK) - so that they don't have to go out & risk exposure to the Coronavirus?. I am aware of the SAD (Servicio de Ayuda a Domicilio) which I found on-line. Does anyone know how this works &/or what support is available from this or from a local community based group?

Thank you

Nadia

The Council of Torrevieja offers social services including assisting the elderly. I'd think i'ts worthwhile to check it out.

Thank you. Yes I believe that the SAD is part of  the council offering. My parents are reluctant to ring them due to language barrier & are not able to do anything on line.

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

Thank you for your reply. I was trying to find out if there were any local communities also supporting (eg. local street communities)  and/or if anyone had already contacted the council for others & would be ok to share their knowledge as any information would be helpful in advance.  Tricky to do this long distance & in another language.

We have tried the number and cannot get through - on permanent answer message.

It's a pity that there doesn't seem to be an local community support.

Hi Nadia,

Just seen your post now. There is a great group called Age Concern, just around the corner fromEl Chaparral, who are helping, and they are taking all phone calls. Please try them if you are still looking for help. Norma Reilly I think she is on Facebook too. 🙂

Thank you. I will try to get the phone number. I was aware of the Age Concern shop.
