Airlines are taking best guesses when the different countries are opening up, so to be ready they are still taking bookings as if it has to cancel the flight you either move your flight to another day (they keep your money and charge more for the flight) or cancel and they take 60 days to give you your money back

Hi

My wife had a flight booked with Ryanair on 01 July to fly from Alicante to UK. Ryanair notified us on Tuesday that the flight was cancelled. It has worked out well for us because we are both stuck in the UK!!!!! and we have a ferry booked to return to Spain on 12 July. Let's see if that happens. (We have Spanish residency and we have our cards with us.) So in essence I would say June flights are a no go.

Take care and stay safe

Neil

Personally I think many of these airlines offering early flights are purely to generate some much needed revenue for their financial situation. As the government advice is to not fly unless absolutely necessary, no insurance is likely to assist with any refund which we already know is taking an exceptional time because of the exceptional circumstances.

However, if people do not book and pay for these flights the airlines may go into receivership and any chance of "cheap" flights with competition for seats will definitely be a thing we once enjoyed in the past.

A difficult choice.

 Hi Neil

May I ask what airport in UK your wife was flying to?

We have a flight Manchester to Alicante which was cancelled for 23rd June so we shunted it on to July 1st just on the very slim off chance that July flights go ahead.

However we have heard nothing about this flight but have heard about cancellations from other airports and wondered if it was because the flights are not generating enough interest!  Just a thought.

We do not realistically expect to get out to our second home until September or October at the earliest but keep rolling bookings on to hopefully have these airlines still there on the other side of this dreadful pandemic.

Regards

Sharon

Hi Sharon

My wife's flight was from Alicante to Southend. You could be right about the interest generated not being sufficient to make the flight viable to the smaller airports.

Take care

Neil
