Interesting point.

I find driving in Spain quite pleasant and problem free. Have you ever driven in France? Pure hell and chaos.

Hi Lukas,

if you find driving in Spain quite pleasant and problem free then I can only assume you are driving a police car?

Aitch.

You haven't lived  till you have driven in Istanbul with a truck heading  thro the City or joined wacky races across Jordan and Syria where the truck drivers come off the tarmac to overtake you in the desert ....did i mention the camels ...!!!!!!!

Drivers will try and intimidate by tailgating if they feel you are not driving quickly enough. My biggest gripe is drivers not indicating when approaching roundabouts or junctions, seems indicators on Spanish cars are an optional extra.

Please do not get intimidated by a tailgater. Of course, they are very annoying and dangerous, but it is not worth getting all het up about it. . If they get too close to me when I am driving, I just ease of my speed very gently until they get fed up and overtake. Relax again !.With regards about indicating approaching a roundabout, the Spanish "Highway code" makes it quite clear that you should NOT indicate on the approach, but that you must be in the correct lane depending on which exit you propose to take. I do not like that way of thinking but I have got used to it .I find the most scary thing in roundabouts here is when you are in the righthand lane wishing to take second exit  (which is what Spanish Highway code says is the correct lane) cars on your left automatically but incorrectly think you will be taking first exit and cutting right in front of you. Only when you are approaching your intended exit, should you indicate that you intend to leave there.. In other words you do NOT indicate that intention until you have cleared the first exit.   Much more advise is given on the Highway code web site.

Drive safely, and do not get too worked up about others who have no respect of traffic laws. My advice to my Children learning to drive has always been:-    Treat every other driver as crazy and that they may do anything you least expect.

Hi Lukas and aitchc.   You are both right . But some parts of Spain are a nightmare to drive in, the big cities naturally and parts of Costa del Sol

are awful at times, bur areas such as Quesada are very easy and pleasant.  Widest roads and largest roundabouts anywhere !

I certainly love driving here !  (Though I did drive a Met Pol traffic car in London for 20 odd years !)

I second that. We drove our 30 year old camper through France and into Spain. In France we were flashed and honked at endlessly as we pootled along at 30mph. By contrast the Spanish drivers were calm and courteous at all times.

My partner picked our car up from airport parking it broke down and while he was trying to get it out the way people were honking their horns god I hate Spain at times

There is absolutely no point getting worked up, its clearly on your mind but do you think for one second its on the other drivers minds NO, treat it how it deserves by just ignoring them and don't let it get to you, I recently had a driver two feet behind me flashing his lights, I was doing the speed limit and refused to be bullied, it clearly upset him more than it upset me, I was smiling he was not

Invest in a dash cam.

We have them fitted in the front and rear window. It's surprising how quickly tailgaters back off when they notice the camera.

Most drivers are just honking horns because that's part of their driving habits. It doesn't always mean that they are "Angry"

Great idea, we have a dashcam at the front but not the back. Think we will get one for the back too.

I have found drivers on the Costa Blanca on the whole very good. I have got used to the way they use roundabouts and I am very cautious,  as you have no idea where anybody is turning off, regardless of the lane they are in.

The good thing is ,so many roundabouts have zebra crossings as you enter or leave that it slows traffic down.

I also laugh at the way that some drivers feel they have to overtake,  then they take the next turning off the road, so making it a pointless manoeuvre.
