Hi , could anyone advise me about obtaining an NIE number to buy a property in the La Siesta area ? Looking at the application form it states that you need a proof of future address in Spain , now how is that possible if you need an NIE number to buy a property in the first place ? Confused !!

I am on the understanding that when you have chosen a property you want to buy, whether to become resident or non resident, that’s when you will have to apply for a NIE, I found a independent solicitor to set all the procedures in place, re nie, bank, DDs, property sale, residency, everything set up in place for our moving in date, taking 6 weeks from start to finish. I feel I found the right independent solicitor and never saw the estate agent ever again from the time I chose my property, although I feel I also chose a good no pressure estate agent, good luck, stay safe and healthy my friend.

As Peter states, getting your NIE is very often part and parcel of the buying process, via you legal representative. It certainly was for us 😘🥂

Hi, when purchasing a place you want, the Estate Agent should be able to put you in touch with the relevant people to obtain your NIE number, it's a pretty simple process.

We used Sun Lawyers and they did everything. Applied for NIE number and set up direct debits for SUMA, water, electricity and community charge. We came back out once purchase was completed and collected the keys.
Mind you, jus like solicitors in the UK, you need to keep the pressure on them. They won't keep you informed unless you ask.

Hi , thanks for your replies. But I think I didn't make it clear on my previous post that to obtain a non lucrative visa it asks for an nie number which you can't have unless you buy a property. So does this mean you have to purchase a property first before applying for a NLV ?
