I have read all I can find on the subject of obtaining residence, but I have not been able to find an answer to one question. My wife and I will be moving to La Siesta early next month and wish to apply for our 'Residence' straight away. We have bought a house and we have already obtained our NIE certificates through the Spanish Consulate. I know that I will have to provide proof of income, which in my case is a Gov. UK. Pension. Although I receive a P60 each year, and regular letters from my pension provider that state how much my pension is, I have been told by the Spanish Consulate that this 'proof of income' would not be sufficient to support my application, as the pension documentation I have is not 'legalised' and does not have an 'apostille stamp'. So, the question is ''what do I do?'' My pension provider says that there is no special document that they can provide other than what they have already given me. Has anybody else had to provide proof of income with an apostille stamp, or is the lady at the Consulate wrong and will it be acceptable as it is.

Thanks. That was a good idea, however I will be unable to do that. My lawyer has opened a Spanish bank account for me (with my Power of Attorney) and has also closed the sale of the house. My pension provider cannot start to pay into my Spanish account until January 2019 and I will have to apply for residence immediately as my wife is not an EU citizen. As she is a 3rd country national she will only be permitted to stay in Spain for a maximum of 90 days. I will have to obtain residence for myself and her before the 90 days are up for her to stay.

As you already have a spanish bank account opened by your solicitor who can give you the bank IBAN details, cant you just get 700€ minimum transferred by an exchange Co(recommend Transferwise) to do this monthly until you get your pension paid direct in January then you will have sufficient months of income details by time of applying for residency. You can still utilise the money once sent by getting it transferred back to UK account if its needed to live on(it doesnt have to stay in the account). This can all be done by Transferwise at little cost just for a few months to January when you receive it direct. Then you can get certified statements from your bank as Ray stated for residency purposes. You need to check if you need more income transferred as there are 2 of you, ie. I dont know if 700€ is each person or if there,s a greater amount needed for supporting 2 people.

Hope this helps

Pauline.

All you need to do is prove an adequate income level - it doesn't have to be into a Spanish bank. The snag is that some of the offices who deal with residency applications might want to see a certified translation, but common sense says that bank statements are self explanatory.

Thanks to all for your input...quite a few people are recommending 'Transferwise' to transfer money. I have 'internet banking' with my non-Spanish account and can transfer 'online' directly from from there to my Spanish account. The charge from my bank is €15 for a transfer of less than €1000. So, is there any point in using a 3rd party to make a transfer of only €700? Thanks.

RayD, thanks it may be worth it if they only charge €5 rather than the €15 my bank will charge. The exchange rate is irrelevant for me as I presently live in Cyprus, so I am sending in €'s not £'s.
