We are planning to make the permanent move to Spain ( La Zenia ) later this year and are looking for advice on transporting our dog which is a small breed, Lhasa Apso, from Ireland to Spain. Does anyone know of companies or individuals you would carry out the transportation in a responsible, safe and secure way. Also if anyone can advise of a ballpark figure for the cost of this service. All replies are appreciated.

My sister in law shipped her cat last year. I asked her details as follows ;

Ryanair doesn't fly animals at all.  Aer Lingus will take them, but not if the destination airport has a possible temperature of over 30 ℃ - i.e. they won't fly animals to Spain from 1st June.

We had to fly with Lufthansa from Dublin to Frankfurt with an overnight stay there, then an early morning flight to Barcelona.  Cost €1,000 and we drove to collect. There was a comfort in knowing it was done safely.

I'd be really interested in what you decide on. We are planning to bring our Bichon out for a few months over the winter, but are leaning towards driving / ferry at this stage.

Hope this helps..

John, just reading back her note. The flights & cost were just for the cat.

She took a regular flight to Alicante and then drove to pick up the cat.

Hi John

Give Dominic a call +353 862 314 265

We breed Staffordshire Bull Terriers and Dominic transported a pup for us last year from Spain to Ireland.  He has a fantastic purpose built lorry, fully air conned and CCTV everywhere so that the dogs can travel in comfort and safety.  Excellent service and I can thoroughly recommend him.  Good luck, Val Thompson

Val, that sounds interesting. Do you remember how long it took and how much did it cost?

Thanks

Ambrose

Hi Ambrose

As far as I can remember it was a couple of days and the owner of the puppy paid the fee so not sure, but THINK it was in the region of €350.  The best bet is give Dominic a call, he's very pleasant and helpful and he'll give you all the information you need with no obligation.
