Can anyone help with advice on where to get a dog when we make a permanent move to Spain. Ideally we would be looking for a young dog with no history of problems and ideally house trained.

Please consider a rescue dog and do not buy from a breeder.  There are many rescue centres in the area, full of unwanted and thrown away dogs.  There is also the pound in Torrevieja.  The dog from a rescue might not be house trained, depends on the previous owner and the length of time he has been in the rescue.  They often have puppies in the centres.

I have now got my second rescue dog, he is house trained and the most affectionate boy I have  ever come across.

My first Spanish rescue was ten when I got him, I had him for another 5 years before he died.  Again he was so loving and grateful.

Josephine, we would be open to looking at rescue dogs as we have had one before in the U.K. which we had for around fifteen years until he passed away. We have only been going to the La Zenia area for around eighteen months and are planning to make the permanent move later this year but are not sure of the location of dog pounds or rescue centres.

Hi John

I would be happy to go to the pound with you (heartbreaking) and I will also give you more information of the various charities.  Many are on Facebook.

Josephine, many thanks for the offer, we will keep it in mind when we are in the position to make the move which is still pending the sale of our property in the U.K.

Sonesanne, many thanks for your reply. We are aware of SAT having picked up their leaflet in a Charity Shop near the Cabo Roig roundabout. We haven't been to see them yet as we are waiting until we make the permanent move to Spain but it is good to hear someone's experience of the Centre. John.
