Hi

I am in the process of buying a 2 bed apartment in beach side La Zenia.  I have opened a bank account with Banco Sabadell and am about to transfer 140,000€.  The money is currently in a money exchange company.  The bank charges .25% on non resident accounts, which comes to 350€.  There is then a commission for the bankers draft when we exchange on the property.  Not sure how much this is but if we take out house insurance with the bank we get this commission refunded.  My question is, has anyone had experience of all of this with this bank and how much should I expect to pay for the insurance?  I would be interested in your views before I transfer the money and buy the insurance.  My problem is I really need to go into the bank and discuss this but I will not be out in LaZenia until I have exchanged.

When we purchased our property our money was with Sabadell.the mistake our Solicitor made was transferring to the sellers bank the complete amount all at once ,and we were charged €400 if we had transferred three desperate transactions their would not have been a charge ( I think it was€49000 per day) worth enquiring about can do a lot with €400, this was 4years Ago.

Our Solicitor had POE for us all the transactions and purchasing was done by her. She had not heard of this before, her Branch was Sabadell in Beniofar(thinks that’s not spelt correct)they would have repaid it but our branch said if we took out a bond he would return it.the end of my answer was where the sun don’t shine. I put it down to experience.

When I transferred the money for my purchase, the exchange company automatically sent it in smaller amounts to avoid the commission charges. You should have an account manager at the company so ask them about it.

Hi Shayden

At the time Currency Direct transferred our money to Sabadell not sure of the amount you can send them every 24hrs think it was49K.Lloyd’s allowed us 24K a day with no charges so no probs .but transferring the sum of money from Sabadell to the sellers Bank in SPAIN they charged  us (wife just informed me€370)probably me being niave didn’t expect charges sending money internally inSpain I was expecting problems UK to Spain it’s a learning curve.

Thanks very much.  I have looked through the commission rates and can’t see anything about the amount at which the charges start.  It just says 0.25% on all money transferred in.  They must have changed it.

Davejclear  it was 4years ago so it probably has. I only remember because it can be a bit stressful purchasing abroad and transferring money. But have to say it was the only sour note in purchasing.

Good luck

Ray.

Hi Dave

We have transferred more than the money needed to purchase our property ( only a little extra) we transferred it from CurrenciesDirect to our solicitors account, no charge she is holding all monies until we are happy to sign for the 10% deposit the vendors bank only charge our solicitor €2 because she does so much business with them! Ask your solicitor.

To transfer monies to Spain use currencies direct at 19995 English pounds per day , shop about for banks they all try and squeeze a bit off money out off you , we brought last year using bankinter , we got stung for life insurance,  buildings insurance get from mapfre cost us 185€ per year , select a good solicitor .
