Your on a ridiculously high tariff 5.75kw. The tariff for a standard property is 3.5kw that's what I am on in a 3 broom house and my bills with the property empty are around 21e per month.

No need to change providet just go into their office and get your tariff reduced that will save you about 15e per month. ...

...

You will always use a tiny bit of electricity when your switched off at your fuse box as the meter needs some juice to run

Hi

Thanks for the advise. I have now asked for my KW to be lowered to 3,45 as I also have a 3 bedroom house. Do you also have a pool and use an air con at times in the summer? If so is 3,45 enough?

Regards

I use my Aircon more in the winter to heat the house. No pool.

I can usually have two units running and the power is fine. However put the oven on and an electric heater on and it will trip occasionally.

Electric oil fired or convector heaters are so inefficient cheaper to use air con in the winter

It has never tripped during warmer months.

No problems being on 3.45, we have used the aircon in winter as a means of heating the apartment and many nights over the summer months it is running constantly on a cool setting to help with the sleeping conditions.

Had to laugh on the mention of the oven, when buying our apartment my wife was surprised to find there was no oven in the kitchen, only a microwave, so the agent promised he would get an oven installed before completion of the sale. He was good to his word and eighteen months later we still haven't used the oven other than to check that it worked.

Like you the electric is only for heating water, lights, tv and aircon when needed either for heating or cooling.

When buying it was our solicitor who arranged our electricity ( Iberdrola ) and water ( Hidraqua ), getting the contracts and direct debits set up. We have been happy with both so have seen no need to shop around.

Once again thanks for the advice....do you pay a standard rate  of water or personal metered usage?

What is your usual bill per month or per quarter?

The water bill is quarterly and averaging around 65 to 67 euros per quarter. When we started our account we queried a bill online which was around 130 euros that we thought was too high and the water company agreed, they then credited our account with over fifty euros that subsequently was taken off our next bill as we had already paid the direct debit on the higher amount. The water supply is metered and we can submit a reading through the Virtual Office on the companies website or simply rely on the companies reading and then monitor the billing which is again available through the website around a week before the direct debit is due.
