If you live thier probably a good idea but if you are on a Potencia which

Is to high you will still be paying a fortune for the rate

And standing charge when the property is empty. Saying that if I lived thier I would have the cheap rate so the wife could do washing and cut the grass between those times.only jokin?

Have a look on here https://www.iberdrola.es/customers/index

Scroll down and their contact details are given. I find them very helpful when I email. Please make sure you give them your contract number plus stick to the point of what you are querying. I would expect you to receive a speedy reply ( not Saturday or Sunday).

Your on a ridiculously high tariff 5.75kw. The tariff for a standard property is 3.5kw that's what I am on in a 3 broom house and my bills with the property empty are around 21e per month.

No need to change providet just go into their office and get your tariff reduced that will save you about 15e per month. ...

...

You will always use a tiny bit of electricity when your switched off at your fuse box as the meter needs some juice to run

5.75kw  is not a high tariff it is fairly standard.  If you use 2 aircons and electric cooker and electric kettle the the smart meter will keep tripping.  All new home now have 5.75 as standard

Thank you 271935 I will send them an email as we are now going back home tomorrow and I have short time. I appreciate your help it will help we are not using aircon. I use gas for cooking so 3.5 will be more than enough for kettle and water heater.

I have air con also (one unit). I told them and they didn't raise any concern, the key I think is not to have a few things on at one.

I still don't understand how reducing the kw reduces the bill....I presume iberdrola just think you won't be using too many appliances so reduce the standing charge. ...

...

On each bill there's a fixed standing charge for access to the grid and a variable amount depending upon the kW used. In Spain, the standing charge is determined by the maximum power you intend to use and this varies from about 1.5 kW to over 5 kW. Standing charges are fairly big here for higher ratings and tgats why people recommend lower ratings. We have a 3 bed appt. with 4A/C units and two hot-water heaters. We just downgraded  from over 5kw to 3.5kW without any problems and are saving about €20 per bill. It tripped once when both water-heaters were going and the oven was on! The electric company will adjust this rating for a fee of about €10 but it's worth being on the lowest possible. If it's tripping regularly you should move up to the next level. The Iberdrola app is very good and allows you to do the very easily!

Sounds like a faulty cooker with too large a fuse, the fault is bypassing the cooker and tripping the main. You deffo need a sparky to check it out

Not necessarily a fault, dependant on what kW rating you are on you might find your cooker breaker is bigger than your main breaker, Spanish wiring is totally different from what we from the UK are use to and needs explaining more clearer.
