Our return ferry for 30 March has been cancelled by Brittany Ferries but we have managed to rebook for next Saturday.  We can drive to Santander in 7.5 hours door to door without having to leave the car (apart from refilling and loo stops!) and regard this as "returning to habitual residence".  Does anyone know if we need to get a pass from the Guardia Civil or suchlike?

We need to return as my car will have been in Spain for almost six months at the beginning of April, not because we want to go!!!

No pass needed. Just have your ferry tickets to hand in case you are stopped.

Many thanks, Jim.  You're wonderful as ever!  But do you know this for a fact or are you using your common sense?  It does seem the obvious answer

I think Jim is correct.    The British embassy and local consulates  report 'just show return ferry tickets if stopped'.

We drove back to UK on Thursday with no problems.  No police n the motorway and not much traffic.  We had booked a ferry but it was cancelled.   We met someone on the way that had two ferry bookings cancelled so getting a booking does not guarantee it will run.
