I went through the same thought process as you when I moved to Spain in 2018, because I always used to buy nearly new in the UK and got some attractive deals.

The difference here is that there is no fleet market, and people tend to hang on to private cars until they fall apart, so there are far fewer nearly new cars available. I searched the internet sites but in the end decided to buy new, and I don't regret it.

Thanks. Several people over here have said the same to me. There seems to be very little difference in price between new and used. I saw a 2016 car with quite big miles the other day for 15900 and it was only an Opel, nothing special. For another 1000/1500 euro, I can buy a better specified car, brand new! I did wonder how far I may need to travel for servicing, etc, but all the brands im considering have dealerships in Torrevieja, so all good on that front.

If you're going new and paying cash, don't be afraid to bargain hard. New car sales are depressed so dealers are very keen to sell.

My top tip is to find the names of the nearby dealers of the same make you are negotiating on, and mention them if the dealer you're talking to isn't budging. You know, along the lines of "Well if that's the best you can do, I think I'll go and talk to Senor Joe Bloggs down the road..."

Thanks. Thats interesting, because ive been using Carwow Spain, which gives you quotes from up to 5 dealers, some close to home, some not so much. But the quotes are all the same, in terms of cash - if  you're paying cash, the price is higher, because they want you to take out their finance. I'm a cash buyer and used to getting a good deal for cash. Im sure though, that if I enter into a dialogue with them, the cash price will drop.

i bought a 7 seat with towbar, bmw x5 that was up for 14,000 euros, with 230000 km on it, nocked the guy down to 11,500 had it six months now, drove back to the uk, drove it around for six weeks then drove it back to spain where i have done another 3000 km since had no problems with the car at all, i know the km's and price are a bit high compared with uk, but quality cars are good for 400000 km's if looked after and rust is not really an issue.

Can highly recommend Guardamar cars 2000. Nico the owner is a very honest young man. If he hasn't got what you want, he will try to find it. Good after sales service as well.
