Looking for some advice please, need to hire a car, hire company wants to block £1000 but our credit card, which we don’t use, only has limit of £500. Is there a way round about this? Bank won’t increase limit as we haven’t used it yet. TIA.

Not too sure how long you are hiring a car for...but we have never encountered this issue with car high company at the airport.

Hi Jan,

The only way to avoid the £1000 deposit, is to buy the hire company’s own insurance policy, which is usually expensive .

"never encountered this issue" which issue are you referring to, having a card with insufficient credit available or what ?

How long you hire for is not really relevant either as they will want the same deposit for one day as 14.

Paying for full insurance is one option but there are others.

We've been renting cars every 2 months for the last 2 years at Alicante airport.  We've paid for the full insurance without excess cover option, additiona driver and express check in and they've never asked for 1000 euros credit card deposit.

Try Lara cars, no deposit and you can pay cash if you wish, they meet you at the airport and take you to the car on the multi-storey car park, so no queues.

Definitely recommend Lara Cars as Andrew recommended, no hassle company, and reasonable prices.

Don’t know if you’ve already booked with a car hire firm this time but a holding deposit on a credit card has been around for many years. If not already booked then there are plenty of firms who’ll do a fixed price deal for the whole term. some take cash. They are expensive though
