Emission Zones are required in towns with a population of 50,000 or more. Torrevieja Ayuntamiento haven't published any information on where the zones are to be as of yet. They have until the end of 2023 to introduce the legislation.  The zones will  have signposts advising of the type of vehicle sticker which is allowed. Obviously these zones can't be in all areas of towns or cities as traffic still has to move in and out  and use roads on the  outskirts of towns to access other main roads and towns. What is the population of Orihuela Costa? There are 8 towns in Alicante Province to which the legislation will apply and Orihuela Costa is not one of them.

The Comm Valenciana to which the LEZ applies.  Towns in Alicante Province are marked in Bold

1.ª Valencia: 800.215 habitantes

2.ª Alicante: 337.482

3.ª Elche: 234.765

4.ª Castellón de la Plana: 174.264

5.ª Torrevieja: 84.667

6.ª Torrent: 83.962

7.ª Orihuela: 78.505

8.ª Gandia: 75.798

9.ª Paterna: 71.035

10ª Benidorm: 70.450

11.ª Sagunto: 67.173

12.ª Alcoy: 59.354

13.ª San Vicente del Raspeig: 58.978

14.ª Elda: 52.813

15.ª Villarreal: 51.293

Cars with labels A, B and C will have restricted access in certain cities due to the application of the new law.

The most affected vehicles are those with the A label. In reality, these are precisely those that do not carry a label and refer to vehicles registered before the year 2001, which may not circulate in the areas delimited by the municipalities, although there are exceptions.

Those with the B label (yellow) correspond to passenger cars and light vans powered by gasoline and registered from January 2000, or diesel from January 2006. Cars with the B sticker can access the ZBE but cannot park inside. of them.  They will be able to circulate and park along the perimeter streets of any province, with the exception of Madrid, where it will not be possible to park in the centre/Almendra

The vehicles that have the C label (green) are those passenger cars and vans powered by gasoline and registered in 2006 and diesel cars offered for sale from 2014, in addition to goods transport vehicles registered from 2014 onwards.  All of them will be able to drive through any Low Emission Zone (ZBE), although in Madrid there are some restrictions for vehicles of this type.

Label 0 emissions.  Color blue.  Identify the most efficient vehicles.  Battery electric (BEV), extended range electric (REEV), plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV) with a range of 40 km or fuel cell vehicles will be entitled to this label.

Eco label. Green/blue color.  The next in the efficiency step, it is mostly hybrid or gas vehicles.  Plug-in electric vehicles with a range of less than 40 km, non-plug-in hybrids (HEV), vehicles powered by natural gas and gas (CNG and LNG) or liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) are entitled to this label.  They must meet the criteria for label C.

Hi Bee/locknut

The first translation of the new edict on LEZs used the word "municipality" - which has more meaning than "town"?

Lockdowns taught me that Orihuela Costa is a part of the municipality of Orihuela. So LEZs have to be introduced somewhere in the Orihuela municipality, presumably by Orihuela Council.

Torrevieja is a different municipality and will have to introduce LEZs somewhere within its own boundaries.

Re La Zenia - personally I would make that section of the AP7 into an LEZ on the grounds that nobody uses that road anyway because of the tolls!😂

Cheers

Steve

I can see a slight problem with the parking issue for B stickers as most of the car parks in Torrevieja will probably end up being in the LEZ areas. Does that mean you can't park in a car park or on the street in these areas?

Just a mention that U.K. registered cars will not be able to get a sticker!

The way I read it - Looks like you will only be able to park in car parks with a “C” sticker.

Yes it is a bit odd that Spain won't issue a sticker to non Spanish cars. You can get a critt air from France and that will suffice.
