You need to check with the Ferry Company, different companies have different arrangements, when we travelled from Rosslare in Ireland to Cherbourg in France, some people had to keep their dogs in their cars and had limited access to them, no dogs were allowed in cabins, however, we booked one of the kennels, each dog had their own lockable kennel and access to water, we were issued a key code to access the kennels and had unlimited access which meant we were able to sit out on deck and walk our dog.

Hi again. Well I have arrived 20 hours and 1480miles. Euro tunnel was great and the journey to it was also very good. Watch the speed Camara near Ashford Kent it’s well hidden. Also don’t forget to login online and pay your bridge crossing at Dartford as I nearly did. Now for the tricky part I was going to go down the west side of France but google maps pushed me into Paris and that’s wheee the fun started. I ended up on the N86 and there is a toll tunnel that takes your money and then the buzzer sounds and the operators will not let you under with a top box on a VW Tiguan. The sat back kept taking me in circles until I put Madrid in and that allowed me to get out of Paris and back on the west side of France. Stopped just outside Bordeaux which was my target for the first day set of at 7 and stopped in a great hotel that you can not miss and dog friendly. 80 euro’s a night and 6 for the dog. Breaks 7 and well worth it. The rest is plane sailing and well worth doing if you a staying for a while and bringing the dog. Hope this helps. Dave

Sorry to break into the conversation but I would recommend either Campanile or Premiere Classe hotels. Both are en suite but Campanile has better restaurants and breakfasts in the hotel however all are near external chain restaurants whereever situated. The Campanile in Bordeaux is good, stayed there this time on way down but previoulsy used Bayonne Premiere Classe and recommend the restaurant across the road by the supermarket, have had good meals there and dogs are permitted in. Both have grass nearby for exercising the dog.
