I am trying to find out which petrol is best on the Costa. My car uses the standard 95 unleaded petrol. There is a wide variation in price between Stations and one car mechanic has warned me that a well known Supermarket which sells cheaper petrol actually waters it. So any recommendations or advice would be appreciated.

You can't "water down" petrol because it won't mix so any water added to the tank would separate out and sink to the bottom of the tank.

Don't believe everything you get told, chief.

You can judge the veracity of what your 'mechanic' is telling you simply by remembering that water and petrol don't mix!

With two cars and a scooter I only ever buy the very cheapest 95 I can find and it's never been any sort of problem whatsoever, nor should it be.

Water no John but petrol stretching where they mix cheaper diesel with a tank of petrol is a possibility. Done in parts of Ireland with 70ltrs added per 1000ltrs petrol. Plenty prosecutions too. Never heard of anybody here caught for it.

This is maybe what the mechanic meant by "watering", blending in an inferior quality fuel into the mix.
