Hi,

If anyone is in the same boat as me and trying to navigate the murky waters on Non Lucrative Visa Application, maybe you can answer these questions?

One of the requirements for application, is to have private healthcare insurance. From what I have researched thus far, it appears that this needs to be in place at the time you apply for the Visa. The quotes I have obtained, require an initial 12 month lump sum payment up front. Thats fine, but considering that the Visa application appears to take between 1 and 3 months to process, you are potentially paying for 3 months of cover, when you are actually not in Spain! Has anyone found a way around this, or do you just need to accept that you will be paying circa 100 euro per month (cheapest quotes) for health insurance that you can't use?

Regarding the proof of income. I understand that it is acceptable to show this in a current, or savings account. But does anyone know if showing this in your pension pot is also acceptable? And does the proof just need to be on a bank statement?

Finally, there seem to be different views on what documents need to be translated into Spanish. Does every single document (including a bank statement, for example), need to be translated into Spanish? As translations seem to be priced on amount of words/pages, the cost for this could soon mount up!

There is lots of advice on the internet - much allegedly from UK and Spanish lawyers/advisors, but even they seem to conflict with each other on some points, so any actual experiences from individuals who have started the process would be appreciated - thanks!

Sorry but afaik the proof of income needs to be shown in a Spanish account and needs to be proved for a number of years. A lot of the info you require should be available on gov.uk website.

Hi Paulo, thanks for your reply, but I know for a fact that the finances do not necessarily need to be shown in a Spanish account. They can be in a UK account and that is acceptable. The only thing I need clarification on, is whether or not the finances shown in ones pension pot would be acceptable as evidence.

You do need to prove that you have a "regular income". The income requirements for a non lucrative visa or to gain residency is around €27,000 (plus around €6,250 per additional person)

I don't think that a pension pot amount would be acceptable.

Difficult to say re the pension pot. Is it in a SIPP? if it is in principle, if you are over 55, you could withdraw it all, subject to tax. I wouldn't write off the idea until someone "holding the pen" says no.

Hi Paul,

I think you're leading the pack when it comes to applying for a residency visa/permit post-Brexit - would you be applying for a Non-Lucrative Visa?

In terms of private health insurance, I'd suggest contacting an agent for advice.  I would have thought they've been providing PHI for other Third Country Nationals long before UK citizens were relegated to that status, so they should have experienced this before.

Regarding proof of the necessary finances, the Spanish government's website page for Visas

http://www.exteriores.gob.es/Consulados/LONDRES/en/Consulado/Pages/Visas.aspx

seems to suggest that everything has to be translated, but as you have to email the Spanish Embassy for the Visa appointment anyway, you could raise other queries with them at the same time.  I'd only be guessing, but as the site also suggests that "shares" and "patrimony" are valid forms to prove income, I would have thought pensions would be too, although I expect the authorities would want proof that you have immediate access to the fund should you need it.  When you email the embassy you could ask for clarification on that point too.

Good luck and please let us know how you get on.

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi Kim, that's a great reply, with some useful info. My thoughts exactly, regarding pension pot and access to it, but like you suggest, I can clarify that, when contacting the Consulate.

Unfortunately my plans have changed, literally just after posting my question, so my application is now on hold for at least a few more months. Circumstances beyond my control, unfortunately, so I will no longer be at the forefront of people applying for the NLV☹
