Our son in laws brother is a contestant on it ! Love this programme and keen to see how he gets on.

Thank you for sharing that information .. I feel a lot happier flying now .

We're booked to fly out to Alicante on 24 March to go to our property in El Galan.  I hope we'll still be able to go.  Let's face it we could get knocked down tomorrow!!!

Planes are like big Petri-dishes in the sky: If someone had to invent a unit for rapidly spreading a virus amongst humans, they'd end up with something akin to a plane. If you have to get on one, take a lot of precautions. If you don't have to get on one, don't.

At the present rate, it's looking like Spain is the next Italy....

...

You don't travel for two weeks, and In terms of the virus, that's a very VERY long time.

I'm due to go to Turkey in mid-April. We've already written that trip off. We would then be over to Spain most months from around May onwards, but we've pulled the plug on those trips too.

I'm not pandering to the scaremongers or over-reacting, I'm just adopting a sensible approach: The spread of this virus won't be stopped by government actions and guidelines but by people using common sense. A commodity in very short supply nowadays.

EDIT: That last comment comes across as aimed at people/someone here, it's not. It's just a general observation.

Planes actually get fresh air from outside the aircraft using a technic called bleeding ,supplying the cabin with good clean fresh air and making a very safe environment for all the occupants in terms of air quality.

It is being dealt with quite seriously here now; the Residencia where my mother lives has been instructed to prevent any visitors to residents by the Valencian authorities, so would assume this must apply to all other Residencias and other institutions housing people in close communities, ie prison system, hospitals and so on.

The Residencia has no idea for how long they have to enact this ban; they rang me at lunchtime to advise me, in common with all their other relatives etc.

By the way, the chap who doesn’t plan to go to Turkey in the near future may not realise that there is no Coronavirus there as yet.

I appreciate that is what is being reported, and if true (I find it unlikely myself, but Turkey is quite the dictatorship nowadays), if true, it won't be that way for long. As I mentioned, if it's free of the virus because those infected haven't travelled there yet, that is about to change; the s...

...eason starts in four weeks.

As for wiping surfaces etc. in planes. It's the air circulation system in planes that are the problem, not the surfaces. Planes are 100% sealed units, so anything airborne that get's inside, stays inside and gets circulated, for hours and hours and hours.

The air-filtration systems on planes have been proven time and time again to be inadequate. It's why you often get a cold etc. after spending time on one. Add into the mix a reduced immune system from a week of drinking and eating junk (we all do it on holiday!) and you have the perfect environment for picking up a virus.

Planes are not 100% sealed,  most take their air feeds from the cold stream flow from Engines and have outflow valves.  It is true the air is recirculated but not 100%. This is to maintain temp and humidity.  Boeing claim that 98% of the air is changed every 5 mins.  The air that is circulated is filtered.  It is generally considered that the risk of being infected by airborne particularly on a plane is no more risk than being in an enclosed area on the ground

This just in from a friend in Torrevieja.

Hi, tell x to be real careful a couple from Catral were taken away by the infection unit Sunday. The Dr has also told me and x that we have most likely got the virus but can't get tested as we are in the young strong bracket, very shocking he said Torrevieja has a lot of viruses at this very moment but you will be fine!!!

This is moving fast now locally.

About that video posted up there a bit...

I was watching that over breakfast this morning. It's interesting, and (certainly in my opinion) paints a much more realistic picture of things. Although it has to be said I've no idea who he is, or if he is even remotely qualified to form any such opinion for broadcast: Talk radio has a habit of wheeling out any old loony to say things that will bump ratings. Look how much air time Farage gets on LBC!

Nonetheless, everything he says does seem to be more or less logical and based on common sense.

Unlike the great orange overlord (Trump) who seems to think the US is "under attack" from a "foreign virus" and providing he take positive action now, the threat will soon pass. He then sent shock waves around the globe by saying people AND GOODS into the US was going to be banned from Friday. Fortunately, someone with less lonely braincells quickly corrected that to say it's only people.

With the US over-reacting and most EU countries under-reacting (according to the WHO), it's all looking like we're gearing up for the mother-of-all clusterf**ks. Hardly a surprise, given the state of worldwide political ineptitude.

By the way, harking back up there to the low rates in Turkey, been chatting to people there: There is no testing being performed, anywhere, even on those presenting symptoms. So it's little surprise they have only one recorded case: If you ain't looking for summit, you ain't gonna find it!
