For the last 8 years we have had our home and car in La Zenia insured through a broker Easy Cover Group. They have insured us with REALE SEGUROS. Weve never made single a claim until this week.

On Wednesday we made a claim for a water leak problem which we understand is covered by our insurance, We visited Easy Cover at their premises and they phoned REALE who said they would contact us direct within 4 hours to sort our problem. They never made any contact. So the following day we again visited Easy Cover again and another promise made that we would recieve contact from REALE within 4 hours but again nothing happened.

So it just shows that you never know if you are really covered by your insurance until you make a claim.

Now looking for recommendation's for a good insurance company as we will not be automatically renewing again through East Cover

Sorry to hear that. I can only say that we have been with Linea Directa for 6 years and have put in a couple of claims, all dealt with without a problem. The biggest being after the wild fire two years ago when our entire garden was lost but lucky to not lose our home too. I would recommend them.

Your story is not a unusual in Spain. I have never had a insurance claim in the 9 years we have had our Spanish property but I do wonder how good the cover will prove to be when we do have a problem.

I moved from Sabadell insurance to using the broker Jennifer Cunningham 3 or 4 year ago, our policy is with Generali.

I don't think there is much between ratings for most Spanish insurance companies but Jennifer Cunningham has a good reputation among expats for their help with claims.

Rgds,

Aitch

We use Alfonso of Gran Alacant Insurances who is an agent for Generali (Ex Liberty Insurance). We have never visited his office as we use email most of the time so we have a reminder and proof of information given [email protected]. Alfonso speaks perfect English and is very helpful. Our first claim was when our car dashboard lit up like the 4th July and absolutely refused to start. He arranged for a grua to collect the car and take it to a garage of our choice. He then told us that after 7 days in the garage we were entitled to a hire car with a taxi to the airport to collect it. There was a limit to how long we had the car which I can't remember but it was reasonable.. Then, when the car was fixed we took the hire car back to the airport and we had a taxi take us back to the garage to collect our car. Obviously we had to pay for the actual repairs but living in the Campo the hire car saved us so much money.
The second claim was household. We had been in the UK and came back to find we had suffered a lightning strike which had blown the router, cctv system, our fridge freezer and our huge chest freezer packed with bulk cooked meals. It had also blown our combi boiler. There was a bit of faff when the repairman for the boiler said the problem was not caused by the strike but we got Vaillant out who confirmed it was and this was accepted.
The premiums are not the cheapest but we want the best, which costs.
There is an Insuurance Ombudsman and you can search for the steps you need to take but "a leak" could be any number of things and what was your broker doing to help or explain?

Thanks for the info. Our broker has not explained anything to us. And 4 days later not one contact from anyone back to us, only a small reply to my email. They keep saying that they do not have any repairers in the area. But i just want someone to look at it and confirm that my claim is valid.

We had two waterleaks this year, they were in the garden underground so we couldn’t see them.  Our insurance company is Mapfre and they sent a man out to find the leak the following day. Couldn’t fault them with the repairs.

I am with Mapfre.  As yet I haven’t had to make a claim but my neighbour is also with Mapfre and had a bad leak from her water heater.  She uses her property as a holiday home so wasn’t there.  We have a key.  Mapfre came out within a few hours of reporting it.  They had to replace her bedroom ceiling and do a few other bits.  This was all done by communicating with my neighbour via phone/emails as she couldn’t come out.  It was an excellent service and quick.  Mapfre aren’t always the cheapest but from what I know they’re very good and efficient.

I will be changing both home and car to Mapre in July when my live insurances through EasyCover Group expire. Lesson learnt |||

I think it's highly recommended that you notify your existing company at least a month before expiry that you will be leaving them

I've heard that they see it as a total affront if you don't.
