RayD.  You're not Spanish. You never will be, no matter how much you suck upto them. And from what I read about you I wouldn't call you British/ Irish either.

If they're Spanish they're in the right.

If they're Irish or British they're wrong.

That's in your eyes anyway.

This woman was hurt and racially abused. Fact.

Thank you all for your advice and sharing your experiences. It was neither my wish nor intention to provoke trouble or cause friction among members of this forum. It is a forum which I enjoy very much, and the knowledge shared among the members. If I could just clear a few matters before I sign off.

My wife and I both speak reasonably good Spanish, although not fluently. As a contributor suggested, google translate is a terrific app which we have used on numerous occasions. The shop assistants in JYSK spoke fluent English and so we conversed in English. At no point were we abusive or "whinging". I don't feel it necessary to explain the scenario again. I have emailed the customer services department in JYSK so will await a reply from them. I will, of course, update their reply here, if that is ok with the administrators.

While our encounter was less than one would expect from anybody, I feel that JYSK management should be aware of the incident. It has not, however, diminished in any way, our love of Spain, its culture and people. I feel I have said enough.

Thank you once again for all your kind wishes, concerns and advice. Thank you also to the administrators for running such an informative and useful forum.

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

But therein lies the problem with your posts on this thread, RayD.  The original poster didn't ask for anyone's "opinion" and he didn't ask us not to shop at Jysk.  He didn't even ask for advice - he advised us that he had contacted both Jysk and the Spanish Tourist Board.  He simply reported an incident in which his wife sustained injury, by way of forewarning us.  Several people offered our sympathy and Movingon provided a helpful link to a consumer article about the official complaints form.  It could have finished there.

Unfortunately, the thread then descended to the depths as a result of your thinly disguised contempt for "whinging Brits" living on the Costas in their "expat ghettos".  I wouldn't choose to live on the Orihuela Costa either, but I wouldn't insult others who do.  Even when Alex removed your offending posts, you continue with unsolicited "opinion" - yet whether you believe the original poster's version of events or not is irrelevant.  The only person who knows precisely what happened that day is the OP and his wife.

Your posts are usually helpful and informative, so I'm at a loss to understand why you are persisting with such unfriendly and inappropriate posts on this thread.  Perhaps you've had a lousy week, in which case you have my sympathy, but if you take your own advice and look at your responses without your own emotional 'expat' bias, you may understand why so many of us disagree with your assessment.

Kind regards,

Kim

A well reasoned assessment of the problem.

Well said and hoping for a satisfactory outcome for you.

This forum is a great source of invaluable information, particularly for hesitant newbies.  I had some really helpful responses to my initial posts a year ago but also some less patient where the respondents were dismissive and, quite frankly , sarcastic and arrogant. They had clearly forgotten what it was like to set foot on Spanish soil for the first time.  They forget that the search engine isn’t great to be honest and that newbies may not be aware of what has been posted before.  A simple link or mention is so helpful but some of the responses I received certainly put me off asking for further advice for some time.

Let’s hope the more forthright amongst us can remember the old saying : If you have nothing nice to say say nothing.

I've read (what remains) of this thread today with great interest. I'd just like to add a few comments and will try to choose my words carefully!

Firstly, without seeing the posts that were removed it's difficult to judge, but I feel posts shouldn't be removed unless they're abusive. (Perhaps they were). Most forums allow topics to go a bit off topic.

The original poster speaks very eloquently about their experience. I have no reason to doubt, and I am not suggesting that the information posted was incorrect. However I do find it a little strange that not one, not two, but all 3 staff members were abusive. I'm a little puzzled by that.

As to Jysk I use their store at Portal de la Marina here and have never had anything but first class service. But then I have never had cause to point out any injury!

The personal attacks being consistently launched at RayD are very disappointing. At least one poster seems to carrying an agenda over from other threads.

Looking generally at the way the Spanish view us and the way we view them - of course not all the Spanish hate the British and vice versa. But.... I feel there is a growing current of dislike for Brits that won't integrate into the Spanish communities and culture. It's purely a guess I admit, but since Britain voted to leave the EU this attitude is hardening a bit. (It could be that was the reason why someone mentioned Brexit?) It is an unfortunate fact that racist abuse and attacks have increased in the UK since the vote for Brexit. Maybe it's the same here, I don't know.

Imagine for a moment you lived in (Just as an example) Eastbourne. Imagine the coast around it was heavily populated with urbanisations of Spanish people who had their own Spanish bars, Spanish supermarkets, Spanish newspapers, Spanish forums (carrying complaints about why doesn't Britain do things the way we do them in Spain!) etc and these people didn't integrate at all with the British? Imagine if hordes of drunk Spanish people caused endless social problems in the bars of Brighton? What do you think the attitude of the British living there would be towards "the Spanish"? Bearing in mind the tendency to tar all with the same brush!

The posts that were removed were mostly in reply to RayD's attack on the honesty of the OP and his perceived anti Brit stance.
