Hi, my name is Emma.

We are looking to move to La Zenia or Villamartin in the next two years. I will be moving with my husband and two Children who will be 17 and 19 yrs old. I will be 46 and my husband 61. We don't speak Spanish as yet.

My question is whether there are lots of other teanagers in these areas for them to meet friends?  and if not, where?

We want to be with lots of English and hopefully our two children will get jobs around the areas.

Thanks, Emma x

Hi Emma,

It's nice that you have a dream to move to your chosen area in the future. The Villamartin is a very big area and full of Expats of all nationalities, some with families but a lot of properties are used for holiday homes and holiday let's. You would be wise to rent for the first year to find your ideal area of Villamartin. My sister has lived there for 15 years and I have often visited for weekends and it isn't an area that I would like to live.

Are you fully aware of the requirements needed to live here in Spain permanently?

You will need to apply initially for residency at the Spanish embassy whilst you are still living in the UK. You will need to prove that you have an income of €27,115.20 for the first person and €6,778.80 per family member after that. So your family as a whole will need a total of €54,230.40 income per annum.

You will need to apply for visas for each of your family and all that entails.

You will need to prove that you have full private healthcare cover for each person in the family fully paid for a full year.

These a the basic requirements you will need to apply and stay within the rules of residency to keep your TIE cards.

Best of luck.

Steve

Hi Steve, thanks for replying.

Is it really €1.500 a week? Thats a lot.

I can't imagine alot of families earning that amount.

Thanks,

Emma.

That is now the stumbling block that has come from Brexit.

Other posters will have other views and explanations.

I have lived in Benidorm for 7 years and loved every day. I really hope you make it to Villamartin. Brexit has made it so very difficult for Expats to relocate to Spain.  Do give up....

Thanks Steve, we won't.

We originally wanted to move to Benidorm but found that you don't get much house for your money.

Hi Emma,

There are thousands of properties including beautiful villas and quality apartments just on the outskirts of Benidorm city centre area. Just outside the city limits the prices drop dramatically and you would still be able to walk to the bustling day and night life in half an hour or catch a (very frequent) bus.

My wife and I live in a 3 bedroom apartment with a view of the sea from our 18 foot long balcony. We have mainly Spanish neighbours who are fantastic people and are always kind and friendly. We can walk to the old town and enjoy the beautiful scenery or visit the beaches within half an hour. The "British area" can easily be avoided if you wanted to but it can be quite nice there and we have had some nice evenings talking to "younger" holidaymakers. Not all British are lager louts. If we want quiet times we just sit on our balcony and there is hardly a sound to be heard.

Before you fully decide your chosen area it might be worth a second look at Benidorm.

Hello Emma,

Slight miscalculation which means you still need a lot but would help you.

1 x €27,115.20 for the first person

3 x €6,778.80 for you and 2 sons (€20,336.40)

So your family as a whole will need a total of €47,451.60 income per annum plus Annual Private Health Insurance.

Thanks

Darran
