Why don't you try it out, give it a go and let us know the outcome.....

Just to muddy the waters while on your stay you became I’ll Covid related meaning you couldn’t fly what happens then ?
So, not one positive confirmation that anyone has ever actually been prosecuted.
We all know the regulations & will abide by them but it would be interesting to know just how strictly, if at all, the authorities enforce an over stay, especially for a minor breach of a few days.
I guess we will have to watch for future posts if anyone reports that they have over stayed & subsequently been penalised.

The problem is that it is probably human nature for people to post about their "successes" if they overstay and it is either not picked up or no action is taken against them. People are far less likely to publicly post about their mishaps if they are trying to enter Spain but stopped and turned away at the border (plus potentially being handed a 3 year ban from returning) because they have previously overstayed.
Anyone who wants to can try to chance it. Personally I wouldn't as I would consider a potential 3 year bar from the whole Schengen area too great a penalty to risk.

Yes , I agree my thoughts exactly

I also agree that it is more likely for "successes" of over stays to be posted rather than highlight the "embarrassment" of a penalty being received - the strange thing is there does not appear to be any postings of either . This was the motivation for my original question as I have no understanding of if these over stays are actually punished or not - and I still don't ?
Of course the answer is don't over stay , abide by the rules etc etc but going back to the OP, would you change flights for a 2 day over stay . I am still wondering what would actually happen, if anything , and these various exchanges have not provided any clarity on this.

There was a story in the paper about a woman who was refused entry to Spain for overstaying. I believe from memory it was because she became I’ll with Covid, but it was more than 2 days overstay.

We stayed two days over, left through France and the fine for two days was 190 Euros each, we were late through ill health. Hope this helps.

This is the story I was referring to
Thank you to the last two posts - therefore it does seem on this evidence that over staying, even for a short period of 2 days does get acted upon by the authorities.
As always, best to abide by the rules.
