I agree with tebo53 Benidorm is awash with bin collections and street cleaners. Most people turn their noises up at the thought of Benidorm but I've never seen a tourist city so well maintained. If any if you are from the UK just have to watch the nightly news bulletins to see how unkempt it is. I know where I prefer!

Hi John, I’m glad that most areas in Benidorm are so well maintained compared to other areas in the general locality. That is a credit to the local council and their huge income from tourists. But I can’t agree with your opinion that most people turn their noses up at the thought of Benidorm. In general I will agree that it doesn’t have the best of reputations, and that is not really justified, but you have to admit there is an underlying reasons for this long term reputation. Personally I like Benidorm, but there are definitely more important things on our UK nightly news bulletins than Benidorm, not sure where you got that idea from. In fact, I have never seen the place mentioned on a UK news bulletin. But glad you are happier being there than elsewhere, and all the best. Keep those streets clean and keep taking the UK tourists money.

Hew,
I think you misunderstand.
I think John123 is referring to the UK being unkempt compared to Benidorm.
And that any images of the UK on nightly UK news bulletins attest to this fact.

If you read the posts and look at the various links it is clear that some areas of Orihuela Costa are disgraceful. Saying that Benidorm is fine and that the UK looks "unkempt" on news reports does not alter the fact that parts of O. Costa are disgusting, overflowing bins, rubbish fly tipped in the streets, awful smells from the drains and more. I have a property in Los Dolses area and it is very poorly kept, unkempt would be a mild way of describing the mess.
I hope that the Partido Independencia Orihuela Costa group mentioned in previous posts succeed in getting control of the area and start making improvements to the area.
Aitch.

Thank you JMP you rightly picked up on what I meant in the post.

We have just spent a day in Benidorm and the first thing I remarked upon was how clean, tidy and well kept the beach, pavements and streets were. No rubbish, weeds, potholes etc.
Returning to Orihuela Costa we were greeted by overflowing bins and large amount of rubbish around them, the usual daily sights.
Well, in that case john 123 etc is completely wrong, there is no way you can possibly say that the (UK) is unkempt compared to Benidorm. One hell of a generalization, it may be true of the area in the UK he came from, I have no idea, but definitely not the UK in general. In fact, I have never seen anywhere in the UK with the level of fly tipping, dumping waste and general lack of inforcement with regard to same, as is accepted in general, in Spain.

Villamartin about a month ago. Looked like this for several days.
That’s terrible and not acceptable in a civilized community. But, as I have already said it can’t completely be put down to the council. Definitely, if they could be bothered they could enforce the law against this indiscriminate tipping of rubbish. The problem lies with the mindset of those who tip it in the first place, and accept it as a quite normal way of life.

You are right in some sense, however the amount of bins in the area are not sufficient. I have had my apartment for 18 years and more homes have been built all over the OC, yet we still have the same amount of bins. We really need double that amount. Especially when more people are here in their properties. In the winter less people are around. One thing that would help in the paper/ cardboard bins is open out and flatten cardboard boxes. Last week I went to the bins and found the bin was full of about 4 large boxes. I pulled them out and took off the tape and flattened them which meant there was much more space in the bins. If bins are full people just leave everything next to the bins. Some problems could be solved by people themselves, but we still need more bins.
The Council are richer than ever before as there are more and more homes which equates to a higher income in Suma tax income.
