Been on the fence for a while looking at properties but retirement is fast approaching and we have finally booked a viewing trip to visit to look for an apartment.

My issue is the wife does not drive, and for the next year or so will be coming over with my family whilst i finish working in the UK so we need somewhere centrally located with restaurants and bars etc etc.

We are looking to spend a max of 170K and would really appreciate any comments and recommendations regarding the areas to look and others to discard. We are not beach people so inland is not a problem but as i mentioned earlier near to ammenities.

Regards

I’m going to be moving over there permanently within the next 18 months, and like your wife I don’t drive so need everything to be within walking distance, and Gran Alacant seems to fit the bill for me.

It’s only a short distance from Alicante airport, has its own little tourist train that goes around all the urbanisations as well as busses, and has plenty of restaurants, bars, shops and supermarkets in the commercial centre. Also it’s only a short walk to Carabassí beach from Lower Gran Alacant. Might be worth looking into.

Good luck, Sara

On the whole, busses aren't great here, in comparison with the UK. But the urbs outside Torrevieja (off the CV-95 and CV-905) have good bus services, enabling access to all usual requirements. In addition, there are services from Alicante airport to Torrevieja bus station.

I also chose to purchase close to amenities as I do not wish to be on the roads with the manic Spanish drivers - I purchased a Town House in

Toretta Florida which is next to the Haberneras shopping mall, Cinema, Bowling, Lidl, Mercadona and many bars & restaurants and only a 15-20mns walk down to the Marina - everything at hand and my neighbours are marvellous and very helpful

There are a few properties in the area for sale - might be worth a look for you & your good lady?
