Hi everyone

We are currently thinking of moving to the area. We have our own business in the U.K and wondered if it would work on the Costa Blanca?

Our services include Carpet, upholstery & mattress cleaning. Deep oven cleaning, Hard floor, tile, marble and grout cleaning, property soft washing, all external cleaning, window cleaning, Property management & cleaning.

We do other work as well but it wouldn't be suitable in Spain

Can anyone tell me if there is any call for this type of work?

Thanks

Zack

I would have thought that if well advertised on all forums and if you provide a good service, you would do very well. On the Talk Quesada Forum, there is a builder who advertises on it, they are spanish and employ an English speaking man who acts as a go between. Over the years, people endorse and highly recommend this firm and I imagine that this helps to generate their business.

Now, you in turn could look for a good spanish person to do the same for you. Forget about the aging British population, there are so many nationalities coming day and daily to get away from their cold climate at home. You would naturally have a couple of vans on the road with your companies services spread all over it...include Swedish, Norwegian and Russian too!
if you have run a successful business at home and know what you are doing, I believe you can do the same in Spain.

Yes, you will have to be legal but that’s what you do at home. I see lots of vans with foreign names/ services nearby at night when out walking, they must have come from another country and started their business and allowed it to grow.  Torrevieja is a big town/ city, more and more houses are being built. You could also offer chimney sweeping as I often read about people burning logs/ pellets during the cold weather and they will need to have their chimneys swept periodically.

People who come to Spain looking for work do find it difficult but if you are starting a service business , you could do well. Once you have started, after any job completed, ask the homeowner to take one of your printed stickers for future services, our memories don’t always work during an emergency and we can’t remember how to contact someone urgently.

Try not to charge the top rate. Many people are retired and can’t afford huge expenses.

Good luck, I wish you well in your venture.

As part of your research can I suggest that you have a look at Jim's Guides on this site.   The Citizens Advice Bureau Spain can also be helpful.   Just bear in mind that after the 31st January 2020 many things may change.   Also be aware that many provinces and towns 'tweek' the national rules and regulations for their own procedures.

Another helpful site for anything to do with driving in Spain is the N332 website.   This is run in conjunction with officers of the Guardia Civil for English speaking people and has an English version of the Spanish equivalent of the Highway Code.

Granny Rose has given you the best advise, take it and be guided by those few words. What ever you do, where ever you go in the world competition awaits you because we live in a competitive society. Get an interpreter into your business, factor in the cost and compete with other Providers. There are several young Spanish unemployed College graduates who can speak English, any one of them would be happy to do sessional work with you.  If you have a good Publicity and Provide good service, you will succeed. No business environment is easy, you just have to Plot your course well.

Read some write up by Jim in Previous Post, you will find it highly informative. He is a man of soundknowledge and is free.
