I would have thought that if well advertised on all forums and if you provide a good service, you would do very well. On the Talk Quesada Forum, there is a builder who advertises on it, they are spanish and employ an English speaking man who acts as a go between. Over the years, people endorse and highly recommend this firm and I imagine that this helps to generate their business.
Now, you in turn could look for a good spanish person to do the same for you. Forget about the aging British population, there are so many nationalities coming day and daily to get away from their cold climate at home. You would naturally have a couple of vans on the road with your companies services spread all over it...include Swedish, Norwegian and Russian too!
if you have run a successful business at home and know what you are doing, I believe you can do the same in Spain.
Yes, you will have to be legal but that’s what you do at home. I see lots of vans with foreign names/ services nearby at night when out walking, they must have come from another country and started their business and allowed it to grow. Torrevieja is a big town/ city, more and more houses are being built. You could also offer chimney sweeping as I often read about people burning logs/ pellets during the cold weather and they will need to have their chimneys swept periodically.
People who come to Spain looking for work do find it difficult but if you are starting a service business , you could do well. Once you have started, after any job completed, ask the homeowner to take one of your printed stickers for future services, our memories don’t always work during an emergency and we can’t remember how to contact someone urgently.
Try not to charge the top rate. Many people are retired and can’t afford huge expenses.
Good luck, I wish you well in your venture.
