Owning a ‘holiday home’ for 5yrs and now coming out of semi retirement to full retirement I am wishing to spend a lot more time in Spain then the uk.

I am totally nieve with residencies and would like advice as to wether an application is a viable option as opposed to the 80day restrictions.

If so, what is required and where do I begin.....

Thanks good people

To gain residency in Spain you will need to apply initially to the Spanish embassy while you are still living in the UK.

You will need to apply for residency at the Spanish embassy in the UK. You will need to apply for a non lucrative Visa and be able to meet the income and healthcare requirements.

The income requirements for the first person is €27,115.20 per annum plus another €6,778.80 per annum for each additional person.

You will need to have full private healthcare cover paid for a full year.

They may need other documents such as (translated) marriage certificate and police checks.

If you want to spend time in Spain having holidays at your 2nd home you will be limited to 90 days in a rolling 180 days.

Hi Chezste,

Details of Non Lucrative Visa can be found here:

http://www.exteriores.gob.es/Consulados/LONDRES/en/Consulado/Pages/Visas.aspx

To start the process, you need to apply at a Spanish embassy or consulate in the UK (London, Manchester and Edinburgh).  In the UK, you apply for a Non-Lucrative visa, which lasts 3 months and 15 days.  During that period, you need to travel to Spain and apply for the NLV residency permit; the application must be made within 1 month of you arriving in Spain.  The initial residency permit lasts for 1 year; then you apply for a renewal, which lasts 2 years.  After your second renewal and having lived permanently in Spain for 5 years, you achieve permanent residency.  During this first 5 years in Spain, you cannot leave Spain for more than 182 days (6 months) during each year, without voiding your residency.  You will also become tax resident in Spain.

Kind regards,

Kim

Thanks Kim.

That answer also clarifies a few niggling questions at the back of my mind.

I am still curious about the €27000 euro, is that per annum, or just at the start of application, would it have to be proved every year?

Thanks
